@vishyfishy2 @capydotai Got it, and thanks for the heads up. If yall can, me as a customer I’d love to see some kind of comparison against other similar products and stuff like cursor long running agents. Do you have any student or startup programs btw? (Excluding YC one)

@stepangrit @capydotai we're going to work on improving routing and cost over time so that most tasks don't end up on the most expensive models

@robinebers I think the best model at that is either Kimi out of the box or Claude models but with some skills/references

Yeah, but it also depends on the situation. I’m a 15-year-old building a startup. Every dollar I can save is a small win. But spending $400/month on AI tools is more worth it than messing up in school, spending less time with family, losing time for other parts of the product or getting less sleep. So as I said, it really depends on the situation. I have free ChatGPT Plus because of my phone carrier and z.ai usage through @ZaiforStartups, and I appreciate that a lot. Still, if I can save some money or use Composer 1.5 instead of other models for mid-range tasks, that really makes a difference for me. Then there’s people that I know that have almost no budget, I recommend them cto.new or the Opencode Zen plan but again, if I had unlimited money, I’d pay for cursor and cursor only.

$200 actually isn't actually that bad the problem is that $200 isn't enough I spent over $2k Cursor in the past 30 days (caveat: because I do what I do, a lot of AI companies get me that access for free, including Cursor) but looking at this usage, I just have to think about my clients and ask: "would be willing to spend $500 or $1,000 a month on this at this point?" I'm honestly not so sure anymore

most people don't know this but... Cursor beats most harnesses because it has features that make your AI significantly (!) smarter than other AI tools the biggest three are probably: 1️⃣ CODE INDEXING Cursor indexes your entire app like a library indexes books, and lets agents ask plain language questions like "where do we talk to stripe" or "what is the database service" and Cursor answers these instantly this means your AI doesn't need to read 37 files, saves context window, acts faster and smarter - and Cursor does this for FREE btw (!) despite costing them a significant amount of money on the backend 2️⃣ PLAN MODE Cursor's plan mode is by far the best one in the industry - not only does it ask really good questions, but it also works across every model in the same way, uses plugins/mcps/skills/etc, but also easily lets you edit the plan before you execute it, and switch models between planning and implementing you can even create a plan with e.g. Opus, then ask GPT-5 to review it, and then let Gemini implement it (I don't know why you would, but you could) 3️⃣ PLUGINS so there's skills, mcps, commands... 🫠 nobody knows what the difference even is anymore or what to use when - so Cursor thought: let's make this ONE thing, call it plugins, and call it a day now they do only make it super easy to use them, but they even suggest them (!!!) if it knows that there is a plugin available in the marketplace that you're not using yet, and it thinks it would help TL;DR: Cursor is THE BEST agent to code, bar none this is based on thousands of hours, comparing tools, building apps with thousands of daily users, no longer reading code, and seeing hundreds of students and clients succeed NO, Cursor isn't cheap NO, if you're a student or indie builder, this is probably not for you but YES, it is the best if you have the funding to do it
edwin@edwinarbus

Matt Maher tested frontier models in Cursor v. other harnesses. Cursor boosted model performance by 11% on average: Gemini: 52% → 57% GPT-5.4: 82% → 88% Opus: 77% → 93% His benchmark measures how well models implement a 100-feature PRD. @cursor_ai consistently outperformed.

@robinebers For sure, I’ve been testing tools since last year and I’m always coming back to cursor and codex, I just can’t justify 200$/m for codex rn, will go for the cursor ultra and ChatGPT plus probably

it’s still funny seeing Cursor is dead posts given that it’s still growing quickly this isn’t targeted at Jonathan, it’s the replies to the post Cursor has features no other tool has: - it can record demos of its own work for you to review - plugin marketplace with the best UI/UX by far - in-app browser that the agent can control, see, and even comes with really good figma-like design tools - best plan mode UI and formatting - can run a task across multiple models at once - if one model beats the other model, you don’t lose your entire config :D the list goes on. literally the only downside is price. i can guarantee you if price wasn’t a factor, most devs would be on Cursor
