This New York Times piece is worth your time. Here’s what is happening, as simply as I can put it. Back in January, Trump sued the IRS, an agency he controls, demanding $10 billion over the leak of his tax returns a number of years ago. IRS lawyers did their jobs. They wrote a memo laying out the defenses that could beat the suit, including the fact that Trump filed too late. His own lawyer was in court when the leaker pleaded guilty in October 2023, more than two years before Trump sued. The Justice Department never showed up to court. Never argued back. Never used the defenses sitting on their desk. The judge got suspicious and ordered both sides to explain whether they were actually opposing each other or just colluding. The day before that brief was due, Trump dropped the suit. Same day, his Justice Department announced a $1.776 billion taxpayer-funded “anti-weaponization fund.”  Trump gets a formal apology. The IRS agrees to drop any audits of him and his family, even though a 2024 Times report found a loss in an ongoing audit could cost him over $100 million. The acting Attorney General, Trump’s former criminal defense attorney, picks the five commissioners who decide who gets paid. Trump can fire any of them. Proud Boys and Oath Keepers are not ruled out. This is the most corrupt thing I’ve ever seen from an American president. Where in the hell are my Republican colleagues? nytimes.com/2026/05/19/adm…

@iamkennethchan @DailyHiveVan Of course they could “decide” on the MLB team in July. It’s a political maneouvre to distract from the issues with the Caps and provide a “good news and hopeful” story for ABC to tell. It kinda came out of nowhere and the timing was pretty suspect

Vancouver City Council could decide on the Major League Baseball expansion team proponent this July, right after the FIFA World Cup. The City has asked highly extensive and complex details from prospective bidders. #MLB #bcpoli #vanpoli #vanre dailyhive.com/vancouver/city…

@TheChaosWeeber It’s one of the best cities in the world. No other city in canada or US comes close. Mexico City I can see being right up there but we are so used to American culture that we devalue Mexico unfairly.

Season 2 of Beef on Netflix is so much worse than Season 1. Flimsy plot lines and a terrible ending. Season 1 was so good; what happened?! #netflix

@Lanefab @MikeKlassen I thought that BC did legalize single stair buildings? Vancouver just had to update their code, which they did last year. Is that incorrect?

@BillKristol @LindaMcQuaig To be fair you had Hollywood to put out your USA USA propaganda so you didn’t need a government sanctioned network or account back then

The increase in Canadian exports to countries outside the US has been driven by two price-volatile commodities — gold and oil — rather than businesses breaking ground in new markets bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

@ChrisWe56184750 @Brad604 @brendonme I get that but I’ve experienced loads of thunderstorms in other coastal (more tropical) locations. What makes the east pacific so calm from a thunderstorm perspective, but is also associated with rough and stormy weather?

@Brad604 @brendonme Why is it that we only get a good thunderstorm every 2-3 years in SW BC? Why is our atmosphere so “stable” throughout the year?

You've been lied to. They said hamburgers was junk food, but the truth is they are one of the healthiest foods on the planet. You only need 5 key ingredients. Here's how to make it:

@Carpaige178176 @SteveSaretsky I imagine there’s a lot of complex system integration and cybersecurity requirements on anything technology related in the government. It would be difficult for a couple of students to develop that on their own

@Carpaige178176 @SteveSaretsky Yeah, one that could get hacked. I agree in that it shouldn’t take millions to do, but bulding a new process and new tech (assuming the data isn’t available currently) and hiring staff to sustain it isn’t budgeted and requires both short and long term funding commitments.

@stepheneb @SteveSaretsky No it doesn't, 3 waterloo interns could cook a program with 2 weeks. But the government wouldn't accept it because it didn't go through 2 consultant stages and cost 100M.

@SenRubenGallego @mattyglesias Nah, let them grind out a win without you and prove to the world that they/ Europe don’t need you as you continue to try to undercut them. You’ve also started other wars and conflicts with global consequences that you should really try to see to a conclusion first.

Ukraine is winning right now. We should arm them, give them the intelligence they need, and let them strike deep into Russia. Instead we're making them beg for it. Democrat or Republican, the next administration has to make the decision: we want Ukraine to win.⁩ @McCainInstitute
