By the end of my 20s I was a 9 year old adult, with an undergraduate degree, qualified as a nurse for just under 2 years, and a postgraduate diploma as I failed my masters at dissertation I'm now 34 and a 16 year old adult, have been qualified as a nurse for almost 8 years, have another postgraduate diploma, redid my dissertation and got my masters, have published in journals several times, have written for and participated in projects for the British Geriatrics Society and the NMC, have become the first independent sector nurse in NI to be appointed honorary lecturer at QUB, also the first independent sector nurse in NI to be a nurse representative on the BGS NAHP, survived and worked through a global pandemic, and today I proof read the final edits of two chapters I have contributed to a textbook on caring for older people and found out I'm a finalist in the 2025 RCN NI Nurse of the Year Awards ✨️ Hard work, perseverance, and a genuine love and passion for what you do pays off
