He's someone I follow on here, often interesting, often disagreeable. But views I disagree with are often more valuable than those that confirm my priors. There, he seems to be indicating that he doesn't like to listen to conversations, even between interesting and knowledgable people. A silly take.

I've never listened to a podcast for more than 3 or 4 minutes. I don't have the patience to listen to people ramble on while I wait for them to talk about something I might be interested in. I'm not sure there's ever been a less efficient way to transmit information.

Idea: at some point on every flight, all the seat-back screens should just show the live view outside. No movies or maps — just Earth from 35,000 feet. Ladies and gentlemen, planet Earth! 😍🌎

An idea that just occurred: historically, men are guilty of dominating the masculine-feminine polarity. But in response, women are guilty of trying to destroy the polarity altogether. To what extent that true?

@mysteriouskat I keep a running list of "honest brokers" in this media space. (You are on it.) The problem is, these qualities do not lend themselves to large followings.

Are there any media personalities or "influencers" with large followings who have actually remained consistent, honest, grounded, nuanced, and not just turned into rage farmers?

Baby is proxy for other things. Having a baby means being an adult. Being an adult means being invisible and doing thankless daily tasks and duties you can’t expect to get credit for. Modern people, especially modern women, cannot bear the thought of being invisible. Hence the constant public disclosures of private things and feelings that you should keep to yourself in the name of “raising awareness” and “breaking stigmas.”

The time a person spends on this app is proportional to how unfulfilling their real life is. The heaviest users are often the bitterest. This matters because such people vent their life's frustrations by attacking everything, and in so doing, they make their misery contagious.

My new theory is that we are more divided because we know too much about each other, and when you know too much about each other's views rather than character and personality, people like each other less.

In my tiny poll, almost half of Elon critics want him to keep building what he's building, but just.....log off 🤷‍♀️

It’s sad anyone would discredit podcasts as a medium for intellectualism. Just because the barrier for entry is low doesn’t mean you can’t hold yourself or speakers to high standards. We’ve lost respect for the role oral arguments + dialogue played in Western intellectualism.

I got a uncle who basically became my role model at some point. The first adult intellectual I ever met. Him being so—boisterously so—made it okay to be interested in “weird” things. I hope he knows.

Humbly: AI labs alone can't "solve alignment," because alignment is largely upstream of the labs — in the incentive landscape in which AI is funded, developed, and used.

I consider the class Expanded Home Economics! Originally, Home Ec taught mostly women how to care for a home: cooking, sewing, etc. Today, everyone should learn how to care for our home at every scale: from body, to household, to bio-region, to country, to planet, to cosmos 💗
