Hello @JeffBezos, since you question the results of our studies on the unfairness of the US tax system, please allow me to remind you of the main conclusions of our work, the most comprehensive research to date on this issue.
Jeff Bezos@JeffBezos

Yes, the United States has the most progressive tax system in the world. The top 1% pay 40% of taxes, the bottom 50% pay 3% of taxes. We can make it even more progressive by zeroing out taxes on the bottom half. It’s a small amount of the total tax revenue but very meaningful to people in this group.

Meta will layoff 8000 of its workforce starting tomorrow morning. Their net income over the last 12 months was $70,587,000,000. They could give every single one of their 79,000 workers a $440,000 bonus and still sock away over $35,827,000,000 in pure profit.

At this point I’ve seen some version of the metaphor of AI as gym equipment that works out for you (so you don’t get anything out of the workout) multiple times. And I really think it’s one of the better comparisons out there. It’s simple, familiar, and people really get it.

doing mental gymnastics with every muscle injected with botox to avoid acknowledging that there is a floor for the cost of living on this planet (which is evil in itself), people simply need to be paid above that amount, and no one should hoard resources whatsoever

an idiot's way of obfuscating the fact that wealth is hoarded by a few thousand people worldwide by saying the unwashed masses shouldn't have to pay tax on the meagre crumbs they're paid for actual work

It is simply inconceivable to me that a significant portion of the population wakes up every morning and chooses to use the Akinator That Makes You Stupid to write their wedding vows, dissertations, tax forms, eulogies etc

I read that entire “Your brain on ChatGPT” (all 200 pages) last fall for my class. Just go read the paper. The results cannot be distilled into a summary or tweet.

Why can’t we use the precautionary principle for once instead of calm-mongering? Tell people Andes Hantavirus is AIRBORNE. Educate people on N95 respirators. Stop the downplay. We have a massive world event happening in a few short weeks. FIFA! The time to educate is NOW!
Krutika Kuppalli, MD FIDSA@KrutikaKuppalli

#Hantavirus is not #COVID. Different virus families, different transmission dynamics, different clinical syndromes, and different treatment approaches. Hantaviruses have been recognized for decades, while SARS-CoV-2 was a novel pathogen emerging in real time. Important to take outbreaks seriously without fueling misinformation or panic.

This is what ignoring Covid for years has brought us. We know Covid causes damage to all systems of the body, including the immune system It leaves people more susceptible to all kinds of other infections. This is what happens because of years of societal abandonment and denial

There's no such thing as "mildly positive" for an infectious virus. The person has the Andes Hantavirus. And downplaying that, the severity of the symptoms, and it's viriality as a contagion is dangerous. You people learned nothing from COVID which killed and disabled millions.
HHS@HHSGov

HHS through @ASPRgov and @CDCgov is supporting @StateDept in the repatriation of 17 American citizens from the MV Hondius cruise ship affected by the Andes variant of hantavirus. All 17 are currently en route via @StateDept airlift to the United States, with two of the passengers travelling in the plane's biocontainment units out of an abundance of caution. One passenger currently has mild symptoms and another passenger tested mildly PCR positive for the Andes virus. As of now, the airlift will transport passengers to the ASPR Regional Emerging Special Pathogen Treatment Center (RESPTC) at the University of Nebraska Medical Center/Nebraska Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska before taking the passenger with mild symptoms to a second RESPTC at its final destination. Upon arrival at each facility, each individual will undergo clinical assessment and receive appropriate care and support based on their condition.

Mao proved that recently-illiterate preindustrial Chinese peasants could understand and successfully parse Marxist theory in the 30s-50s, why are you pretending that literate postmodern ppl won’t be able to get it? ridiculous stuff here
J. Ryder🪿@harbingerofwoke

Its not that reading theory is wrong, but it’s undeniably alienating to any potential mass base. You need politics that can mobilize people without reading. Look at MAGA, does their base need to read Milton Friedman to be MAGA? They can embody their ideology through everyday life

We’re not at all prepared for this. We’re not even having a public discourse about what’s happening, much less about how we must adapt, change what we eat, may have to relocate, outlaw golf courses and data centers for our young to survive, etc.

April 2026 was the worst April for drought in US recorded history, dating back to 1895. Yes, even worse than the Dust Bowl.

The Australian government *also* upgraded its air filtration system at Parliament House , but *also* not at the hospital you attend or your mum's care home or your kids' daycare or prisons or shelters.
tern@1goodtern

Don't ever forget that your government upgraded the air filtration in its main government buildings during an airborne pandemic, but not the hospital you attend or your mum's care home or your kids' daycare or prisons or shelters.
