Which retool? The one right now or the one he did last year when he traded Chytil, Kreider, Trouba, Kakko, etc. and dumped Laviolette for Sullivan Guy has had 500 chances, he just sucks at this and the team isn't smart enough to notice

I’m so torn on trading Alexis Lafreniere for multiple reasons Cons of trading him: 1. I think in a world where you traded Kreider, you trade Panarin, you trade Trocheck, potentially Zibanejad. Alexis Lafreniere can step into a 20-22 min, PP1 role on a team with limited expectations and take that next step. I don’t think a 70 point season would be out of the realm off possibility 2. He’s only 24, he’s locked up, and his contract, if he hits that 70 point ceiling, can be considered a value contract in a rising cap situation. Similar to Chris Kreider, who was an underperforming 1st round pick pre-letter, he came out of the post rebuild and was a huge memeber of multiple ECF teams. Laf can have the same trajectory considering his age and contract 3. You would be selling him at potentially .50 on the dollar. Even in a 1 for 1 for Shane Wright, Laf was a better prospect and a better pro up until this point in time. Maybe not ideal to sell low, right before a rebuild 4. I don’t trust Drury to even get a Shane Wright back Pros Of Trading Him: 1. He’s on a long, expensive contract compared to other “struggling young players”, if you can get off his money for someone like Shane Wright or Kent Johnson, even if they aren’t as good as Laf right now, you reset the cap hit and pay accordingly. This only is a pro if Laf never hits that ceiling. It becomes a major W if whoever you trade for hits their ceiling on a lower AAV 2. Right now, you can still trade him to any of the 31 teams in the NHL, his trade value by default is higher due to that, a m-NTC eventually kicks in. Which limits potential suitors and return 3. More of a pro for Laf himself but we have seen Kakko and K’Andre take leaps in new scenarios. Can easily be Laf next #NYR
