@thameswater Thames Water were working all along our road, outside our house, just before this happened, but we couldn’t catch them as they left. This might be unrelated of course.

@thameswater The outside stop valve just outside our house is squirting up like a fountain at full mains pressure. We reported it yesterday online but it says it could take 3 weeks to attend and I’m worried about water damage in the meantime. Any way to check progress? HP27 9PF

@UridiumAuthor Technically some special B+W films would work (eg Ilford XP2). Conversely Kodachrome slide film won’t work properly. It’s all about whether IR will pass normally through all the layers (but not the dust). Silver Halide B+W film and Kodachrome both block the IR to some extent.

@stevejdaly That fits my observations, certainly. Took me by surprise. 1) I didn`t remember ever having any black and white film, and 2) I didn`t notice a notice to say not to use the Infra-red scan on black and white film. Thanks for the info, mystery solved. Cheers.

Scanning in my first set of black and white negatives and the IR scan software makes a complete pig`s ear of the picture. Switched off the IR scan and it`s OK. Back to the next colour negatives, reinstated the IR scan and the results are fine. Who knew?

What a faff to simply change your work Windows password when it tells you it`s about to expire. All routes and help lead to you pressing ALT-CTRL-DEL, which is great for changing your home PC password, not your work PC password.

@voneusbroadband I went past a cabinet of yours in Cuddington today and it was really noisy. You could hear it all across the normally quiet village. Are the fans running excessively due to it being a hot day, or is it always this noisy?

@UKPowerNetworks There are signs saying that the main road through our village (Bledlow) is closed for a week (28/6 to 2/7) for UKPN works (ref EC30082357186). Do you have any more details about whether this is closed to pedestrians too, and what disruption there will be. Thanks

Capslock is largely useless. It should be changed in the operating system so that it toggles the case of the text you've currently selected. this test [select + tap capslock] THIS TEST This is the best idea I've ever had. Do it now @Microsoft and @Apple

@Hermesparcels Our Hermes delivery driver always leaves our packages outside in the road, rather than walking the very short distance up our path to ring our doorbell or leave in our porch. Another package ruined in the rain today (an old board game).

@chilternrailway Can you help chase a refund? I bought some refundable tickets on your website,and posted them back to you for a refund in February but haven't heard since. I phoned and was told there was a backlog but it's been 4 months now. I can send more detail as needed. Thx
