The official definition of Islamophobia — now repackaged as “anti-Muslim hostility” — will have a chilling effect on free speech, silencing legitimate criticism of Islam and preventing important conversations about the grooming gangs scandal and Islamist extremism. In a free society, no religion should be placed on a pedestal or offered greater protections than others. This will inevitably exacerbate community tensions further. The UK already has laws that protect all religions — including Islam — from religious hatred and discrimination. The government should enforce existing laws rather than waste taxpayers’ money on an unnecessary and dangerous exercise.

I volunteer in church. Collections are contactless. Most people can't be bothered to fill in their Giftaid details, to allow the church to claim back tax. So I fill it in with my details. The church gets Giftaid and I deduct the donation from my annual tax return - we both win.
