@hockeyb40028622 @NHLRumourReport Those clauses are paid and bought for with their lowered aav. What’s stopping a front office from making it miserable for a player just so they can trigger a request and therefore void the clause? It’s a can of worms that will not be opened.

@steveyweevey @NHLRumourReport The poor babies will have to find a compromise. It will almost certainly end with an amendment that says if you voluntarily request a trade because you don’t like the weather or taxes in Winnipeg, tough toenails bud your list just became 16 teams, maybe 10 depending on term/age

@hockeyb40028622 @NHLRumourReport Last time I checked, it’s the athletes who are the ones earning money for the entire league. Fans buy tix to watch the athletes play. No one is out there buying tix to watch the GM on the bench nor buying jerseys with GMs names on the back.

@steveyweevey @NHLRumourReport And if the athletes still want to have their cake and eat it, then they can enjoy the lockout. Seriously, it’s time to stop worshipping these spoiled delusional athletes. They should have less rights, not more. They are playing a child’s game on TV for generational wealth😂

@MattAllen_Art @FriedgeHNIC I agree. But Carlsson is just 21yo so he will have a loooooooong NHL career. Plenty of time to worry about winning a Stanley Cup (as a Duck or in another team) versus a limited opportunity to sign blockbuster multimillion dollar contracts.

@steveyweevey @FriedgeHNIC If their job is to look out for the best interest of their client, they should give the player a wholistic view of the implications of signing the contracts that they bring to them or negotiate for them. Some athletes would rather make a little less and win more.

Since F1 came to Las Vegas, the Golden Knights have been out of town the entire weekend. That is NOT the case this year as they have a home game at 7 PM against Dallas on November 19th. F1 runs practice from 4:30-5:30 and 8:00-9:00 that night.

@MattAllen_Art @FriedgeHNIC That’s not their problem. These agents have clients signed with other teams as well. You want them to make the same argument in every negotiation? “Hey don’t pay our client too much cuz it will ruin your cap and chances to a Stanley cup.” They’d sound like an idiot.

@FriedgeHNIC How do you not ask them wether they talked to Leo about how this contract would blow up the Ducks cap and make it hard for them to win a Stanley Cup? It was interesting to hear from them but man, seems like you gave them a pass on holding them to the flame on the damage they did

It’s very important to remember that Leo Carlsson signed with the Flyers. He did not choose to be a Duck. He’s basically like Adam Banks, and he’s only there based on a technicality

Speaking to an #NHL Exec…he suggests if a player negotiates a no-trade or a no move clause in their contract but then requests to be traded prior to the expiration of their deal, the NTC should be voided and the team should be allowed to trade the player to any team in the league.

@Fredsmomdot @DucksDaily93 Why do people always say that Leo doesn’t want to be there? He had the understanding that Verbeek will match anything before signing. Leo gave them a chance to take him at 15M knowing they have 18M in their back pocket. Everything about this tells me he wants to stay.

@DucksDaily93 I think if they match he’s fired next week for fumbling. If they let him walk he’ll say he never imagined the ridiculous offer sheet and got 4 1sts. For a guy who didn’t want to be here

Regardless of how this ends (I still will be shocked if it isn’t matched but I’ve been wrong before), I’ll be fascinated to see what Verbeek says when he’s pressed on botching this. My respect for him will increase if he owns it but I don’t expect that. Again, you can have a really good eye for talent which he does and absolutely suck at other things (like negotiating and maintaining relationships)

@MJudeP @billmeltzer 1. My guess is yes: Carlsson wanted to play in Anaheim for 15. And, even if he does not want to be there, they will match and trade him for a massive haul next year after the bonus is paid and the acquiring team only needs to pay 1 million.

The Leo Carlsson offer sheet is NOT about cap space or about the Ducks' ability (Henry Samueli's specifically) ability to afford a match. Rather, it's all about the Ducks' business operations model itself. According to Forbes Magazine, the Ducks operating income for 2025-26 was $26 million. Operating income is earnings before expenses, taxes, depreciation, amortization, etc.) If the Ducks match the Carlsson offer sheet. it will take a $20.8 million chunk out of their FY 2027 operating budget. They also have to plan for Cutter Gauthier and eventually Becket Sennecke contracts (which would undoubtedly include a huge front-loaded bonus structure if they make an exception for Carlsson). THAT is the crux of the offer sheet. The Ducks can match (and I still think they will) but it means tearing up their entire way of doing business; and letting a competitor dictate it. That's why it's not a no-brainer that they match. Also not a no-brainer that they don't.

@FreePeteyEP40 If I’m understanding the logic behind this completely, you’re saying that there really isn’t a bad contract anymore because the rising cap will shrink that % anyway. But a 23-man roster will also demand raises in the future & the cap isn’t rising fast enough to cover all.

Carlsson’s $18M is Misleading, here’s why Crosby’s first superstar contract was 15.3% of the 2008 NHL salary cap. Carlsson’s $18M offer sheet is 17.3% today, but with the cap projected to reach $123M within the next 3 yrs, it falls to 14.6% - less than Crosby’s first major deal cap context matters & astute GM’s shoukd do exactly what Briere did #NHL #NHLRumours #NHLTrades #HockeyX #HockeyTwitter #LetsGoDucks #Flyers #Canucks #FreePetey #SalaryCap #OfferSheet

@frank_seravalli Hi Frank, why on earth would that be a part of Anaheim’s calculus when it’s their own GM who said they will match anything? Leo should be the one asking: Does this team want me to be here?

With any offer sheet signed, there is always an inherent question: Does this player want to be here? What must be part of Anaheim's calculus now with an AAV of this magnitude is whether that's the case with Carlsson. The more calls I make, the more I believe that's in question.
