@cath_menarion It's not schism. The bishops have no geographical jurisdiction, so they're not setting up a separate church. Dunno what to call it, really.

People act like the canonical situation of the SSPX is much more unclear than it actually is. The priests are suspended latae sententiae. The bishops were excommunicated, then it was lifted, now if they go through with the consecrations they'll be excommunicated again.
John Traddington@JohnTraddington

Were the 1988 consecrations a schismatic act? If so, has the SSPX been in schism since that point? And if that is so, how did Francis give the SSPX universal jurisdiction to hear Confessions? None of what the Vatican claims about the SSPX makes sense.

Talking Heads performing “Once in a Lifetime” at The Pantages Theatre in 1983 feels like watching a nervous breakdown turn into art. The groove keeps moving, David Byrne looks like he’s receiving messages from another planet, and the whole performance captures that strange feeling of waking up inside your own life and wondering how you got there.

@khnh80044 OMG it was so awful. American cars, American cities, and disco music made the late 1970's one of the worst periods of American history. They all represented debauchery and decline.

@MichaelPTKelly Totally agree. Saying a "eulogy" at the mass misunderstands what the Requiem Mass is.

A eulogy is *not* part of the Catholic funeral rites. Sometimes priests make exceptions, they should not INHO. They are rarely - very rarely - done well, and people ought to keep stories that mean a lot to them for the wake. Funerals are to pray for the dead.

Remember the Old Catholics, who rejected Vatican I in the 1870s in order to 'hold to tradition,' and then ordained their first female bishop in 1929.

@Pontifex I'm just gonna suggest one thing: pre-empt this whole SSPX crisis by issuing the mandate. I know there are a lot of ostensibly powerful players that will throw a fit. But they won't go for your jugular over it. They can't afford to. You're in the driver's seat, really

Friend is in an absolute pickle rn… He’s been on like 7+ dates with this girl, really likes her, everything’s going great. Then last night for whatever reason (never ask this question) he asked her body count. 70+. Now he wants to end it immediately. She’s 27, he’s 30. Is this valid or is he being soft?

@utahagen @SamaHoole So, you think HRT is a good thing and works? Not a pointed question, a genuine one.

In the NYC area, the ob/gynos who prescribe HRT without a battle are overwhelmingly those who do NOT accept insurance. Most of the rest of the OB/gynos either are ignorant about HRT or see no percentage in educating their clients. They know a percentage will get some kind of cancer with or without HRT and they don't want to be sued by the ones who took HRT and got (probably unrelated) cancer.

Doctor: "You're in perimenopause. Let's discuss management." Patient: "I've been losing muscle. I was thinking of lifting weights." Doctor: "Be careful. Cardio is gentler. Try yoga." Patient: "Resistance training prevents osteoporosis better than anything else." Doctor: "We have bisphosphonates for that." Patient: "I'm exhausted. Red meat has been helping." Doctor: "Red meat raises your cardiovascular risk. Limit it." Patient: "Red meat has the iron, B12, zinc, choline, and cholesterol my body needs to make hormones." Doctor: "Try wholegrains, legumes, soy." Patient: "Soy gives me hot flushes." Doctor: "Phytoestrogens are protective." Patient: "Against the symptoms I'm having from the soy?" Doctor: "..." Patient: "What about HRT?" Doctor: "There are risks. We prefer not to." Patient: "The SSRI you mentioned has risks. So does the bisphosphonate." Doctor: "..." Patient: "So no meat for the hormones. No lifting for the bones. No HRT for the hormones again. Just porridge, a yoga mat, and a pill for the mood I don't yet have." Doctor: "I'll book you in for six months." Patient: "And until then?" Doctor: "Have you tried mindfulness?"

I’m realizing that most folks on this site who are simping for the SSPX are just too new to the debate to have all the relevant details of the situation ready to hand. tl/dr: Rome has been more than patient over the decades but the concessions the SSPX demand will never happen.

Maybe instead of committing schism like cowards running from the fight, the SSPX should suck it up like the rest of us and work within the Church to sanctify ourselves and our parishes and our dioceses. 🤷🏻‍♂️
The Blessed Salt 🧂@theblessedsalt

My point wasn’t that you were wrong about the average parish. My point was that SSPXers always do this BS “us vs. them” crap while THEY are the ones committing schism. Yes, the average parish needs a lot of work. And, soon, every SSPX parish will be headed by a schismatic. What’s your point?

Of all the things I’ve said in defense of unpopular Catholic moral teachings over the years – on abortion, sexuality, social doctrine, or what have you – I don’t think anything has generated more undiluted hostility and unreasoning, spittle-flecked rage than what I’ve said against intentionally killing civilians and obliterating civilian infrastructure during wartime. It is truly extraordinary. I never would have guessed it. Make of it what you will.

@CatholicSmark Yes the Pope should just issue the mandate and keep the talks open. The Vatican partisans can't pull out the big guns and it maintains the status quo for now vis s is the SSPX. Best outcome for both sides.

So lets say Leo meets with the SSPX: What realistically is going to be obtained? The Society have said they won't discuss why they reject Vatican II, or what Rome could do to end this. They have said they will consecrate bishops no matter what.

Tucker Carlson explains how the FBI and CIA conducted a coup to take out President Richard Nixon with help from journalist Bob Woodward. “Richard Nixon was taken out by the FBI and CIA, and with the help of Bob Woodward.” “[Woodward] was that guy. And who is his main source for Watergate? Oh, the number two guy at the FBI. Oh, so you have the naval intelligence officer working with the FBI official to destroy the president. Okay. So that's a deep state coup.” “Richard Nixon was elected by more votes than any president in American history in the 1972 election.” “The most popular president in his reelection campaign, and two years later, he's gone, undone by a naval intel officer, the number two guy at the FBI and a bunch of CIA employees.” “You tell me what that is. Those are the facts. Those are not disputed facts.”

@JhWesten @Pontifex The pope should just issue the mandate. The double standard of "tolerance", "dialogue" and "synodality" is too obvious: modernism gets free reign and traditionalism is quashed. That cannot continue.
