The problem with your idea of democracy is that it can be easily sabotaged by reactionary forces. Only a vanguard party led by principled socialists can stop counter revolution and thats way more democratic.

Russia held an election a few weeks after Lenin seized power in 1917. Lenin's party finished a distant second.
Lenin then abolished the other parties and shut down the constituent assembly right after it convened.
