6 years of living in Texas and I've come to the conclusion that the no state income tax thing is basically a scam. The property taxes are so high that they negate any savings. We are still paying as many taxes in Texas as we would in California. You save on gas I guess.

@SandyofCthulhu I started playing in AD&D 1e and absolutely hated level drain, as did all my players. We home brewed a different system. I’m glad this was removed.

I was flabbergasted when I learned (comparatively recently) that undead in D&D no longer level drain. Instead they do "necrotic damage" that basically keeps you from being healed till after a long rest.
Man back in the day undead were hard core. You were really terrified of them and it absolutely made you bring clerics along and keep them safe. Healing was okay I guess but nothing compared to TURN THOSE WIGHTS BRO!
What a disappointment. I remember one of the weaknesses of RuneQuest after switching systems was that RuneQuest had nothing as fearsome as level drain to scare players with. We had to rely on lesser stuff like paralyzation, fire breath, etc. But D&D had that too.
