@AlbyEarley @Mr_Considerate The "single issue"(s) are also supposed to address groups like XR, the original concept was pushed by people like Woodcock.

"Jewish forces carried away 28 Arab inhabitants who were then burned alive with petrol." Speaking of ceasefires: A British document from August 1948 refers to a massacre in the recently-occupied and uprooted Palestinian village of Al-Tira, Haifa, which took place during a truce. A few weeks earlier (see quoted tweet), before the final occupation of Al-Tira (today the Jewish town of Tirat HaCarmel), the newly-founded State of Israel literally threatened the village's residents with a "Nakba", in what might be the first use of the Arabic term in reference to 1948.

Constantine Zurayq mentioned "al-Nakba" (to describe the defeat of Arab nations) in his essay published in Aug. '48: the🇮🇱soldiers used al-Nakba to push Palestinians out of their home in July '48. Please stop repeating the bogus claim that Zurayq was the 1st one to use al-Nakba.

@shuhu217927301 @EwanBen It can also be used as a means of tamping down on news coverage, again probably intended and an equally bad idea.

@EwanBen In parts, yes and no. The IRGC has many divisions at this point. More importantly it can be used to repress anti war opposition in Britain and serve as a pretext for an "antiterrorism operation" against Iran, I.e. join the American war.

@Tom_Gann I'm quite convinced the spate of crass & inaccurate headlines we've been getting of late is cos they are being LLM generated to further hack down subbing costs.

@yet_so_far Fair enough. I went through those copperplate books as a kid, and writing very neatly and significantly with very tiny letters seemed to be prized (then changed school system and ended up with inconsistent handwriting anyway)

@stylites_c Not quite, we were allowed to print if we wanted, they just wanted me to write neater and prettier I still have no idea why.

Just remembering how much my parents and teachers stressed and hassled me about my handwriting when I was little. Still have no idea why they thought not having perfect schoolgirl lettering would handicap me through my entire career.

@yet_so_far Was it a schooling system that stressed copperplate and used those books where you traced the perfect letter shape?

My mom still talks about when someone recommended sending me to a creative writing camp (where I did very well) her first reaction was “but her handwriting’s terrible!!”. Thing is, it wasn’t even that bad.

“Israel now believes it is successfully engaging in a final offensive to shatter the Palestinian community in East Jerusalem, to fragment and atomize it and transform it into a demographic reality with no political or national significance,” said the author Mouin Rabbani, “as in any other situation, cultural institutions are central and integral to sustaining communal life and providing it with its identity. This explains their targeting.” I was interviewed by @HalaGorani for her @newlinesmag article on Israel's assault on Palestinian cultural life in Jerusalem. newlinesmag.com/reportage/isra…

@ThaRubyPrincess @Willibee64 Don't even think he necessarily liquidated it, the $3m valuation is based on the last (and only) round of funding (around $500K).

@bat020 @Ken_Stonger The implication is that Starmer was freelancing and deliberately trying to collapse the talks for his own purposes.

So you worked with loads of good people, but none of them appear to know how productivity is measured? Not all jobs in the private sector are the same. Every economist will tell you public sector productivity is the drag on our economy. Even the French have better productivity than us, and they work fewer hours.

Here you go. The last dying kicks of this corrupted, authoritarian government. This is being done under the State Threats Bill that Mahmood and allies like Luke Akehurst pushed through Parliament in the last month. This is going to have wild, unpredictable effects. Practically what it will mean is that it will be almost impossible for media outlets to work with on- the-ground journalists to report on Iran, Gaza or Lebanon. But I fear this will also be turned on the movement protesting Israel's genocide in Gaza. Don't believe me? Just days ago NGO Monitor produced a wild-eyed report, endorsed by Lord Walney and Michael Gove, that paints the huge public protests in the UK against Israel's genocide as the work of an international campaign linked to nefarious foreign actors. The report urged the IRGC to be proscribed. Proscribing the IRGC is one of the most consistent and powerful demands of the Board of Deputies and other pro-Israel organisations. Deeply chilling, authoritarian, irresponsible stuff. Mahmood and the Labour Together project have waged a vicious war on our democracy and basic civil liberties.
Pippa Crerar@PippaCrerar

BREAKING: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards will be effectively proscribed as a terrorist group, the home office has announced. Ministers are today laying draft regulations before parliament to ban the IRGC and fellow Iranian group the Islamic Movement of Companions of the Right (IMCR). The GRU, the Russian military intelligence unit, will also be designated, if approved by parliament.

@Leftwood U.K. agriculture is funny because we saw the pending risks in the tropics, decided to get 85% of our grain and feed from there with no plan b or diversification, and manage our own land strictly in the interests of tax breaks and glamping fields
