Would an African president shut up a noisy audience in France the way Macron did in Nairobi? Some Africans are outraged about the French president's paternalistic tone. But some praise him for showing leadership. Was it rude, or was it the right thing to do?

Nobody said people should cross the highway. The real question is this: if the bridge stays open at 12 midnight, who provides permanent security there? Do you have stationed officers? Floodlights? Surveillance? Rapid response within minutes? Security resources are limited as we all know. If patrol coverage is weak at night and the bridge becomes a robbery hotspot, authorities either deploy fixed security or restrict access during peak risk hours. That is standard risk management. If there is no safe alternative route, then government must address that gap. But pretending that an open bridge without security automatically equals safety is not serious. Risk management is about reducing exposure when protection is insufficient. That is the reality.

I write to formally report an unauthorized installation of an iron gate on a Federal Pedestrian Bridge across the railway line located at Ikeja Along, opposite Ajayi Farm Bus Stop, Lagos. This bridge is a federal public infrastructure, meant for unrestricted pedestrian use. The installation of an iron gate by individuals or a community group has restricted public access, posed safety and emergency risks, and appears to have been carried out with approval from the Ikeja LG authority. I am aware that railway assets and pedestrian bridges fall under the jurisdiction of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, and as such, any structural modification or access control should only be executed with official authorization. For your assessment, photographs showing the iron gate and its location are attached as evidence. I respectfully request that: 1. The situation be investigated urgently. 2. Necessary action be taken to restore unrestricted public access. 3. Appropriate measures be implemented to address any genuine safety concerns through official channels. Thank you for your attention.
