The new law is even more insane. @SFDAOffice had a hard enough time getting people held in jail — as of April 30 EVERYONE must be offered bail unless they’re accused of murder or assault causing great bodily injury. So @sfdefender has already asked for the release of nearly 100 defendants.

@SFPD As of April 30 a new California Supreme Court ruling took effect—no one can be held in jail for pretrial unless they commit murder or an extremely violent attack causing “bodily injury.” So pickpockets, dope dealers and users, carjackers, domestic abusers, etc. all go free.
