In South Africa we sell our homes with stoves and ovens. In American it’s sold with most appliances including the fridge Tell me your country and what’s normal there

@EM_RESUS As a paramedic in South Africa, quite often (stabbings are more popular). Now in Australia, not even once.

@TheLeeMcLaren In South Africa you do both. Lectures and classes from Monday to Thursday, working 2 shifts (ambo, theatre, ER, ICU, etc) every weekend with skills to sign off. By the time you're qualified with your degree, you have the skills and the knowledge

You have 3 years of training to become a qualified Paramedic! where all the responsibility is yours! Would you rather learn: 1. In the trenches, working on an Ambulance 2. In the comforts of a clean, warm lecture room, talking about it. And why?

@Seantooker2 In Perth, Western Australia, the trees are also dying everywhere. We had an exceptional hit summer and very little rain so far

First it was the strange hue of the trees now it’s a real life nightmare. This is very hard to take, it must be shared because none of us can escape this. A catastrophe like we’ve never known is unfolding & exploding at an incredible rate. 🧵 #tasmania

Sydney, Sydney, Sydney, Sydney… what a whirlwind of endless magical moments with you. I’m so grateful that we got to be the first tour to play Accor Stadium 4 times. I’ll never forget singing with Sabrina, the chaotic acoustic mashups, and the crowds that were louder (singing AND screaming) than I thought humanly possible. I want to thank all of the Aussie fans for being so positive and passionate, so funny and wild and FUN. Love you forever 🤍 📷: Don Arnold / @GettyImages

WHAT HAPPENED TO EXPLICITLY WRITING THE BOOK NUMBER ON BOOKS??? Why do I need to play a guessing game to find which is the first one, and which is the second when I’m at the library??,

I frequently get asked why the US military does trauma research in South Africa. Well, this is why... Your next EMS call is a GSW to the abdomen located here. There are no street names or addresses. Their phone doesn't have GPS. You also have to wait for police escort because the area is so violent, and EMS are frequently subjected to armed robbery. No one actually knows how many people live in this urban settlement area, but estimates range from 500,000 to 1,500,000. Cape Town jas **27-times** more homicides than Baltimore. The nearest hospital has the same level of resources as a Forward Resuscitative Surgical Detachment. Every day here is prolonged field care and delayed evacuation. #emergency #emergencymedicine #foam #foamed #foamcc #army #armymedicine #armyemdoc #meded #icu #criticalcare #navy #airforce #marines #military #c3 #c3network #capetown #southafrica #africa #westerncape #cape #medx #medtwitter

@SeanScottHarvey No, the Paramedic title is a 4 year degree, we have other names and abbreviations for the other qualifications (ECT, ECP, ILS, BLS, etc) When you're an ECP/Paramedic, you're an Independent Practitioner and work under your own license.

@susannadv Wow that’s an exciting curriculum! In Victoria (Aus) we have specific services for rescue (Firefighters and others). Seems like you only need two years to become a paramedic initially. Are ECPs/ Paramedics autonomous clinicians?

Hypothetical scenario: if the initial paramedic degree was 4 years instead of 3 years for a bachelor, what additional content would you add to the degree? Interested to hear your thoughts. #Paramedic #FOAMed

If anyone is looking for the most thoughtful present, my Mum bought me a year in books for Christmas and it’s amazing ❤️📚 (even better, some were second hand from people who mean a lot to me)

@Aidan_Baron I agree with you, in our field you need that practical component (via appropriate placements) to do proper research. Or maybe I also have an unpopular opinion

Very Unpopular Opinion: The state of postgraduate paramedic education at Australian universities is … really poor. If you aren’t providing placements for your students in ED/ICU/GP or whichever environment is applicable - frankly I don’t think your course is up to scratch

So our book club are reading “you called an ambulance for what?” Which is quite amusing sure, but I feel it should be renamed “We dispatched an ambulance for what?!”
