Worth a read! 😍
My mom wanted to send me homemade pickles. But I said ‘no’.
I was 27, living in New York, working on Wall Street. I didn't need pickles shipped across the world. The shipping would cost more than buying them here.
Three years later, I read the psychologist take on what I'd actually done. When you reject someone's offer to help, you're not just declining assistance. You're declining their need to matter to you!
Benjamin Franklin figured this out in 1736. He had a rival in the Pennsylvania legislature who hated him. Instead of trying to win him over with favors, Franklin asked the rival to lend him a rare book.
The rival agreed. They became lifelong friends. It's called the Ben Franklin effect. When people do something for you, they convince themselves they must like you. Otherwise, why would they help?
My mom didn't want to send pickles because I needed them.
She wanted to send them because SHE needed to feel useful to me. To feel like despite the ocean between us, she still had a role in my life.
Every time I said "I'll manage," I was taking that away from her. Here's what I learned after a decade of living away from home:
→ Accepting small favors isn't about you needing help.
It's about letting people you love feel needed.
Your dad wants to transfer ₹5000 even though you earn well?
Let him.
Your friend wants to pick you up from the airport even though Uber exists?
Say yes.
Your partner wants to make you tea even though you can make it yourself?
Accept it.
The people who love you don't want to solve your big problems. They want to matter in your small moments.
Let them. #lifelesson

Knowing that your GPA and your core GPA are not the same thing is MANDATORY!
Your GPA is everything on your transcript.
Your core GPA is the one colleges use based on approved academic core classes only.
A kid can think he’s in great shape because of his overall GPA… and still be in trouble when it comes to eligibility because his core GPA is low

I, apparently a naive idiot, had assumed that this was what “we background check our drivers” always meant.

Something honestly scared me today.
I was scrolling LinkedIn and I couldn’t tell who wrote what anymore.
• Same tone
• Same structure
• Same “smart” voice
I use LLMs every day. I love them.
But here’s the part nobody says out loud:
LLMs don’t just help you write. They pull you toward the middle.
And when everyone sounds polished, nobody sounds real.
Your edge is the point. Your awkward phrasing is the signal.
AI won’t steal your voice.
But it will erase it quietly if you let it.
So let me ask you, honestly:
Are we evolving with AI… or quietly losing the edge that made our thinking ours?

I never use food delivery apps because I know how they’re ripping off and undermining the life of the restaurants I love that are creating the real value to our cities, communities and streets. @LastWeekTonight covered it.

Parent Recruiting Legend! 🚨
• PWO — Preferred Walk-On: Invited to join the team with a reserved roster spot, but no scholarship money. Treated similar to scholarship players in day-to-day operations.
• WO — Walk-On: No guaranteed spot. Must earn a place through tryouts or camp.
• PSA — Prospective Student-Athlete: Any athlete a college is evaluating or communicating with before enrollment.
• OFFER (Scholarship Offer): A school is committing athletic scholarship money if the athlete accepts.
• NON-COMMITTABLE OFFER: An offer that is conditional. The school likes the athlete but the offer depends on factors like camp performance, senior film, position needs, test scores, or other recruits committing. Not a guaranteed spot or scholarship yet.
• NON-RENEWAL (Scholarship Not Renewed): Scholarships are 1-year deals. A non-renewal means the school won’t renew it for the next year.
• GRAYSHIRT: Delay enrolling full-time until spring. Saves eligibility and scholarship numbers for the program.
• REDSHIRT: Player sits out a season (up to 4 games in football) to save a year of eligibility.
• BLUESHIRT: Player joins the team without a formal recruiting process; counts forward toward next year’s scholarship class.
• TRANSFER PORTAL: Database where athletes can officially declare intent to transfer.
• OV — Official Visit: School covers travel + expenses. Max 5 total for the athlete (new rule allows more, but only 1 per school).
• UV — Unofficial Visit: Visit paid for by the family; athlete meets coaches and sees campus.
• COMMIT: Athlete verbally agrees to attend a school.

Your faith will be tested in the recruiting process.
Not just faith in God.
Not just faith in your talent.
But faith in the timing.
There will be moments when:
• Coaches stop responding
• Teammates commit before you
• Camps don’t go the way you hoped
• An offer you wanted goes to someone else
And in those moments, doubt gets loud.
You’ll question:
“Am I good enough?”
“Did I miss my chance?”
“Should I give up?”
This is the separating point.
The athletes who succeed aren’t always the most talented.
They’re the ones who trust the process when it’s quiet.
They keep training when no one is watching.
They keep emailing when replies are slow.
They keep showing up when it would be easier to shrink back.
Faith during recruiting looks like:
✔ Controlling what you can control
✔ Staying prepared for the opportunity you can’t yet see
✔ Believing your timeline doesn’t have to match someone else’s
You don’t need instant proof.
You need steady belief.
Trust the work.
Trust your preparation.
Trust that the right fit is worth waiting for.
The athletes who combine patience, persistence, and belief in themselves?
Those are the ones who walk onto campus confident — not just because of where they’re going, but because of who they became in the process.
