Who would you love us to profile in @colossusmag ?
Our sweet spot has been: incredible people who’ve not been covered or interviewed often.
Who would you suggest we try for?

@spenserskates @clairevo @brian_scanlan @intercom Excited to see the resulting reacceleration growth curve look like this

English

@clairevo @brian_scanlan @intercom Brian has been the model for how we're changing Amplitude's engineering approach. We're now getting the best engineers at Amplitude on developer experience.
English

I have been hyping @brian_scanlan and @intercom to every eng leader I've spoken to since getting a behind the scenes look at how they 2x'd their productivity in their R&D org.
In this week's episode of How I AI, Brian pulls up dashboards and tools and shows us how it's done:
- explicit targets + reporting on leading indicators of AI adoption
- how they measured how quality increased with more AI usage
- centralized skills repo for the entire company
- telemetry on claude code + evals on internal success
- building for an agent-first onboarding flow
Sorry to be that bro, but truly: STOP what you are doing and watch this right now if you are looking to inflect your eng + product team with AI.
As always, a huge thanks to our sponsors:

@vinaygo is looking to develop Agent Analytics with a few companies. Please let him know if you want to use it and you can get one of the best engineers at Amplitude working directly with you to build what you want!

This means the world.
Credit to @tylercowen for the idea that stuck with me before I became a principal: the highest-return thing a teacher can do is raise a student’s expectations of themselves.
We built Alpha School around that exact idea.

"Go all the way until it hurts. If you're doing something and it's easy, it's not valuable." - @travisk
"If anyone says a strategic thing was easy, I'm like, 'You messed up. You could have gone way further. More competitive advantage. More differentiation. Get it together.'"

@0xferruccio how are you getting the screen recordings? user opt in or recreating based on DOM-based session replays?
English

there's many places across the product we're using agents to pre-analyze stuff but just as an example - our ai feedback product auto-clusters qualitative feedback streaming in from slack, zendesk, amplitude surveys, gong calls, public reviews, and other places.
there's many other places (session replays, experiments, agent outputs, etc) across the life of a product we can pre-analyze and tune over time to improve insight and recommendation quality.

English

@frankdotlee @jkkorn @danshipper can you explain this to an ignorant investor? what is a simple example of pre-analyzed data?
English

@jkkorn @danshipper gimme an hour and i gotchu. we can do this 100x better since we have a bunch of pre-analyzed data to feed the agents.
English

@Amplitude_HQ @JacobNewma22350 @frankdotlee @dazzeloid @willdjthrill @EricCarlso16600 I've tried registering a few times but haven't received a confirm/invitation yet. Can you help with this?

@Alfred_Lin Spenser Skates will end up being the canonical example here.

“I have a high risk tolerance for betting on myself. Most people pretend they’re good at it, but they’re not.”
—William Hockey
Alex Konrad@alexrkonrad
Profile: Plaid co-founder William Hockey is building a 'durable' unicorn at Column, his startup with $200M in revenue and a valuation of (maybe) $6B. His bigger fight: a new financial 'Cold War' with China. I spent months and 100+ hours reporting, writing and editing this piece, the first edition of The Upstarts Profile. We go deep inside one of Silicon Valley's most interesting, low-profile startups -- used by Brex, Mercury, Ramp and many more. And we give a first look into what Hockey and co. are doing in emerging markets, where as a proud American, he says China is "eating our f***ing lunch." upstartsmedia.com/p/profile-colu…

Agree. We’ve managed our 401k accts for decades. Each of us beat the index easily over 25+ years (which means we beat 99% of pro public investors). Took almost no time since it’s not our job and we rarely trade. For the most part, holding a small number of stocks and doing nothing has been the best approach (wish I had learned that sooner).
English

The idea that it's hard to beat the market is mostly trotted out by money managers. What they really mean is that it's hard to do when you manage other people's money, because it's difficult to get paid for doing the obvious thing. I think it's substantially easier than most people think for the person solely running their own cash.
English

@svafier @spenserskates The idea is marked as [Redacted] in Spenser's original post, and after checking threads, quotes, and web sources, it hasn't been publicly disclosed. It might be a confidential strategy between the hedge fund and AGI ideas. If it surfaces, I'll keep an eye out!
