@Jkylebass October 11-24 2024 is my window for Taiwan. Find low tide close to sunrise and you have your day. Let’s hope I’m wrong.

Republicans aren’t going to win a narrative battle over gas prices by arguing they were higher under Biden in 2021. They have to come down. That’s it. That’s the only political solution.

@MartinSkold2 Currency devaluations are masked by asset “bubbles” except everything inflates in nominal value, not just the tulips. People expect the bubble to burst but it doesn’t because it never occurred to begin with. Asset owners maintain PP, debtors get richer, everyone else loses out

@MartinSkold2 Maybe a better way to put it is I wish I could read today’s historians write about it as if it happened 2000 ago

@MartinSkold2 I’m sure they have ways to replenish somewhat, but I can’t imagine them having either the missiles or launchers to truly do that when they couldn’t even pull it off a year plus ago when all this started with Israel. That or they have Buddhist level restraint.

The truth is we just don’t know. Iran at this point has fired more missiles than even expansive prewar estimates claimed they had. Maybe they’ve run out, or maybe they’ve produced more, or maybe they’re getting more. But it’s far from a logistical heavy lift (literally) to get munitions to wage a fairly intensive campaign into Iran with impunity - we did it in Ukraine; the routes of access are at least as numerous and available here. And, we know China does it: jinsa.org/archive_post/i… - note the date (!).

People are laughing at them for this, but if China is supplying them, this is its chance to launch the proverbial Thousand Missile Strike on a carrier without ever having to go to war or take fire. And then observe the results. We actually made it easy for them.

🚨 BREAKING 🇮🇷 IRAN WILL REMOVE THE U.S. BLOCKADE BY MILITARY FORCE. FORMER FOREIGN MINISTER MOTTAKI SAYS: “A NAVAL BLOCKADE MEANS A DECLARATION OF WAR.” "OUR FIGHTERS MAY ACT AS SOON AS TOMORROW OR NEXT WEEK" THIS IS EXTREMELY BAD FOR THE MARKETS!

@MartinSkold2 I think we’re actually handling it pretty well, but I would’ve liked to see the blockade start sooner. It’s a really tough nut to crack. I was against it at the outset, but given the decision, they’ve done a good job navigating a very risk averse public and an intransigent regime

@sweethomertr Well, I’m not giving them any abilities they haven’t already demonstrated. But if you think all that’s required here is a Grant to their Lee, what course of action would you have our Grant pursue, that we haven’t already taken?

@MartinSkold2 I just think it’s easy to give the enemy superhuman abilities. “Oh, I am heartily tired of hearing about what Lee is going to do. Some of you always seem to think he is suddenly going to turn a double somersault, and land in our rear and on both of our flanks at the same time.”

Overland via Turkmenistan or Armenia? Over the Caspian? In the holds of oil tankers headed in for a top-up? In pieces in unmarked heavy airlift? How did they get them in last time (or do people really think Iran built thousands of missiles all by itself)? And if they didn’t - if Iran does have that capacity - then all they need is some popcorn and a nice viewing screen.

@MartinSkold2 I had a friend who was thinking about trying out for USSS about 15 years ago and the physical standards were insane. Not sure what the status is now. I will say Reagan got shot and Trump didn’t (this time) at least?

About what I’ve been taught the handful of times people have taught me firearm self-defense. But the thing that’s really jarring for most people who see it is that, with the possible exception of the guy at “ready” (debatable), none of these people look like the grizzled professionals you typically expect to see in these situations. (Look at pictures of the Reagan shooting aftermath for comparison.) They look like frightened office workers. Kids, even. It’s that gut-level impression that leads people to believe something is seriously wrong.
R T@RDog861

So I talked to our PD's firearm's instructor and showed him this picture. His take on the picture was this: The Agent on the left is at what our PD generally referred to as the "Ready Gun" position. That's where you scan and assess your environment and you're prepared to bring your pistol up to a firing position. The female agent is in a modified "Weaver" shooting position and in that case she needed to be looking at her sights (admittedly, this photo is a snapshot and maybe she was the bulk of the time) but the point is she was in a firing position, not a scan and assess "Ready gun" position. The guy to her left looks like he just totally confused or situationally overwhelmed. Anyone disagree?

After reviewing the list l’ll give Obama credit for about 1.6 - 1.7 assassination attempts. Sabremetrics still have Trump in a comfortable lead with 4.2. Biden was about 0.3. Embarrassing.

@MartinSkold2 SAS is the one thing they can actually still get right. As long as they can hitch a ride into theater on a C17 that is.

I mean, it’s also compromised by the lack of ships, operational fighters, tanks, line infantry, heavy airlift, and drones, plus the industry to back all of those up, but yeah - definitely also an issue if the SAS can’t recruit.
WarMonitor🇺🇦🇬🇧@WarMonitor3

The amount of special forces SAS leaving on voluntary resignations due to recent court injunctions on veterans is said to be so signifiant It compromises Britains national security-Telegraph
