Higher elevations may see snow! It's not unheard of, but also not very common in late May. Weekend campers and hikers should plan for much colder conditions in the mountains, especially on Saturday. #mewx #nhwx

@kristinsinsin @crousselle Part of the assumption here would be that the US (and maybe Canada, if they'd like) would move away from doing time changes.

Pope Leo XIV

Today, among the goods that are universally intended for everyone, we must also include new forms of property, such as patents, algorithms, digital platforms, technological infrastructure and data. In a context where the wealth of nations depends increasingly on knowledge and technology, when these goods remain concentrated in the hands of a few, without adequate forms of sharing and access, a new imbalance is created that contradicts the universal destination of goods. In turn, it widens the gap between the included and the excluded, between those who can participate in the digital revolution and those who remain on the margins. #MagnificaHumanitas

I don't really care if the security guard was an ignorant anti-Semite or that the leaders of this particular Mosque have a history of embracing extremism. There were kids inside, so I am thankful he acted to stop the shooters. This targeted attack was an act of terrorism. Something we can't accept in America. It was wrong when an Islamist extremist targeted a synagogue/school in Michigan a few months ago, and just as wrong today when these two lunatics targeted a Mosque/school. Parents shouldn't fear that kids going to school or families going to worship might not come home. Such places shouldn't need constant security. The normalization of such evil and hate only ensures further violence. Everything else is a different discussion.

USA 🇺🇸 A new poll by Washington Post-ABC-Ipsos has found: • 90% of Catholics and Protestants have a negative view of Trump's AI Jesus image • 57% of all voters have negative view of Trump's false claims about Pope Leo XIV supporting Iran getting a nuclear weapon • Catholic approval of Trump has fallen 10 points to 38% • Leo XIV still popular with Americans • 69% have a negative view of Pete Hegseth's comments on  'overwhelming violence of action against those who deserve no mercy' • 66% of all voters have positive view of Leo XIV asking people to contact politicians to seek peace

If the Holy Father visits Silicon Valley, it would be the most important visit of a Pope anywhere since at least St John Paul II's visit to Poland in 1979. And perhaps even more important than that.
Jonathan Liedl@JLLiedl

With all the focus on Trump and +Leo's words on Iran, little attention is paid to an area of perhaps even greater tension: Regulating AI. Here's what @BrianBurchUSA just said about the subject--and why he thinks Pope Leo should visit Silicon Valley. ncregister.com/news/050526-bu…

I've never found it credible that he didn't know what that tattoo meant. I've never in my life met a Marine or soldier or any person in general who couldn't precisely describe in exquisite detail each tattoo and why they got it.
Mike Nelson@mikenelson586

Guys, stop with the Platner apologism. He referred to his tattoo as a "totenkopf" in 2019. He knew was it was. You're being disingenuous (h/t @KFILE ) cnn.com/2025/10/24/pol…

@dilanesper I can certainly make a case for Orban as an autocrat, even by the M-W definition, but him losing an election is a big strike against that. I think academia's tendency to take normie terms (autocracy, fascism, white supremacy) and redefine them has been a huge problem.

@dilanesper I actually think your first point is incorrect, precisely because of those same people in point 2. Most normies are probably assuming the M-W definition of autocrat (merriam-webster.com/dictionary/aut…), while those academics have redefined it to something much broader.

@27gunfighterz @eigenrobot Sure - but that's not what's being referred to in the said tweet. The Pope's statements today were not a response to Trump at all and were given to a bunch of people in Cameroon who have been dealing with a pretty appalling war of their own.
