If we coercively annex Greenland, we will lose access to bases and other intelligence assets in the Arctic region currently provided by our NATO allies. This idiotic idea does not enhance our security posture in that part of the world. It weakens it.

As a former Justice & Defence minister I want to be absolutely clear. Like the Australian government, the Irish government’s unbalanced toxic rhetoric and conduct relating to the Israel/Gaza war has contributed to escalating antisemitism in Ireland. Both the Taoiseach & the Tanaiste are directly complicit. Toxic debates in our parliament , protests on our streets, the conduct of political parties, trade unions, university boards, the IPSC & its myriad sub groups have normalised antisemitic rhetoric & antisemitism. Irish social media posts are a cesspool of antisemitism, antisemitic abuse & threats. Irish sport is increasingly contaminated & Jewish children feel intimidated in our schools & are being bullied. Recently the Taoiseach criticised what he depicted as a “perception of antisemitism in Ireland”. While rejecting the campaign to dename Herzog Park, he chose to ignore the antisemitism in which the campaign is firmly rooted & validated RTE’s Eurovision exit, failing to understand the egregious nature of RTE’s action subsequent to the massacre by Hamas of 378 people at the Nova music festival on October 7, 2023. Both the Taoiseach & Tanaiste have on multiple occasions been fully briefed on the current reality. The programme for government adopted the IHRA working definition of antisemitism in January 2025. Nothing has been done to implement it. Today’s tragic Bondi Beach massacre is yet another warning of what antisemitic hate speech leads to. My condolences to all families bereaved & I wish a speedy recovery to those injured.
