A binman in Turkey’s capital found a bag of thrown-away books on his rounds and couldn’t bring himself to take it to the dump. He kept it. Other workers started doing the same. The pile has now grown into a public library of over 9,000 books, run by sanitation workers, in an old brick factory.

The U.S. federal government has a ghost. His name was Aaron Swartz. At 14 he co-wrote the code that powers every podcast on Earth. At 19 his startup merged into Reddit. At 24 he was a Harvard fellow studying corruption. In 2011 he downloaded 4.8 million academic papers from JSTOR. JSTOR declined to press charges. The federal government did not decline. 13 felony counts. 35 years in prison. $1 million fine. For downloading research. His lawyer warned the prosecutor he was a suicide risk. The prosecutor's response, on the record: "Fine, we'll lock him up." While he waited for trial, he built one last piece of software with two others. A way for any whistleblower in the world to reach any journalist in the world without dying for it. January 11, 2013. Aaron died by suicide in his Brooklyn apartment. He was 26. His father said at the funeral: "Aaron was killed by the government." A Marine named James Dolan kept the code alive. Iraq War veteran. PTSD. He installed it at The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Guardian, The Intercept, ProPublica. December 2017. James died by suicide in a Brooklyn hotel. He was 36. Two of the three creators are dead. Here's the wildest part: The repo's first commit is dated January 11, 2012. Aaron died exactly one year later. To the day. The code is still alive. Last push: today. 3,804 stars. 706 forks. AGPL-3.0. Audited by Bruce Schneier. Used by 65+ newsrooms across the world. Two dead developers vs. the most powerful government in history. But DO NOT use SecureDrop. We should all let the government keep its secrets. 100% Open Source. (Link in the comments)

I will soon be leaving the bridge. I want to give heartfelt thanks for all the outpouring of support. My purpose here has been to fulfill my duty to the truth- to call on the people of this country to recognize and exercise the revolutionary power within us- the power of collective nonviolent action and non-cooperation with evil- by which we can bring an end to these hateful wars and the murders committed in our names. It is only with the passive compliance of millions- our obedience- our willingness to continue to do what's expected of us: to go to work, to school, to pay our rents, our mortgages and our taxes, that the Trump regime can remain in power and these wars continue. One man on a bridge is relatively powerless, but the collective withdrawal of our obedience and support is capable of bringing a swift end to the regime and its wars. This nonviolent collective action is our greatest power and it is the exercise of this power that those who rule fear more than any weapon. For the sake of the world, its children, and our future let us build this power with each other, together.

Trump just said: “When I get out of office in, let’s say, eight or nine years from now…” His current term ends in 2029. Eight or nine years from now is 2033 or 2034. The 22nd Amendment limits presidents to two terms. His own judicial nominees refused to confirm that on camera this week. He’s not hiding it anymore. Never stop connecting the dots.

REPORT: Governments are now classifying massive AI data centers as “military operations,” quietly stripping communities of any power to stop them. Local control is disappearing fast. And it’s being replaced by national security justifications as residents are locked out of decisions that are quickly reshaping entire communities. Project Matador in Texas alone is expected to use up to 96 billion kWh annually—nearly half of all residential electricity in the state. And it’s just one of hundreds that are moving forward right now. In Louisiana, locals describe chaos as Meta’s expansion drives up costs and disrupts daily life. Now in Utah, the Stratos Project, backed by Kevin O’Leary and fast-tracked by Gov. Spencer Cox’s military authority, is bypassing public input entirely. Meanwhile, the technology these centers power is already raising alarms, including vehicles that can override drivers in real time through facial recognition systems. This is happening now. Watch what’s unfolding around the country before it reaches your area.

2/ There is no evidence it ever stopped operating just because Epstein is dead and Ghislaine is in federal custody. Networks like this don’t vanish. They are agile and well-funded. They adapt, they rebrand, they get smarter. Removing two names doesn’t dismantle a system.

The Epstein files aren’t really “files” the word downplays this in a way that doesn’t align with the scale and magnitude of what is documented. They’re decades of FBI reports, police records, and buried complaints stacked on top of each other, ignored, delayed, or sealed. This was a system that ran in plain site, funded by some of the wealthiest families in the world: an elite access network.

Donald Trump casually admits he merged two massive federal departments without signing a single legal document. He handed total control of American energy to his billionaire cronies with zero oversight. The White House operates like a corrupt mafia bypassing all laws.

Trump selecting his own resort in Doral to host the G20 summit not only benefits his resort, but means other cities have materially lost out. No evidence that there was a fair selection process. Clear presidential profiteering. Don't let this go. citizensforethics.org/reports-invest…

JUST IN: A Trump judicial nominee was asked point blank: is Trump eligible to run for a third term? Their answer: “I would have to review the actual wording…” Sen. Chris Coons then asked every nominee in the room to confirm the Constitution bars a third term. Silence. Every single one of them refused to say it. Trump is appointing judges who won’t affirm the 22nd Amendment to his face. Never stop connecting the dots.

🚨🇺🇸: The US national debt just surpassed our entire economy for the first time since we defeated Hitler. $31.27 trillion in debt. $31.22 trillion in GDP. The last time this happened we had just won a World War. This time we gave billionaires a tax cut and started a war with Iran. Never stop connecting the dots.

BREAKING: The REAL reason for Pete Hegseth and Kid Rock's infuriating joy ride in deadly Apache military helicopters is revealed — and it's so much worse than we thought. This is how your tax dollars are being wasted... To celebrate (and advertise) the commencement of his nauseatingly titled "Freedom 250 Tour" in Dallas, Kid Rock — real name Robert James Ritchie — played a pre-show hype video of him and Hegseth riding in the Apaches. That's it. That's why they burned your tax dollars on expensive helicopter fuel and gave Kid Rock Special treatment. You can't have healthcare, childcare, or affordable housing. But Kid Rock can have his hype video. According to Variety, the video shows Ritchie arriving at an airport via private jet. Hegseth greets him on the tarmac and hugs him. "Mr. Secretary, what are you doing here, sir?” asks the washed up musician. “I’m going to your show tonight!” Hegseth says. “Awesome! Jump in, I’ll give you a ride," says Ritchie. “Well, I appreciate that. But, how about I give you a ride?” says Hegseth, at which point the video cuts to the Apache helicopters. Ritchie appears thrilled, high-fives Hegseth, and they board the aircraft. Ryan Grim of Drop Site News reported on Ritchie's private jet trip to Fort Belvoir for the Apache ride last week, but at the time it wasn't apparent that he was filming a video. Even so, it was clear that tax dollars were being exploited for partisan purposes. “Apache helicopters are not stationed at Ft. Belvoir so unclear where they came from,” Grim wrote on X. In other words, it sounds like the aircraft were transferred to the base, wasting even more fuel, just so that Ritchie could save some money on his tour's advertising budget. The choice of Apaches was intentional. Last month, Ritchie was criticized when he posted videos of Apaches flying up to his house in Tennessee for a PR stunt. The Army suspended the aircrews pending an investigation, but Hegseth immediately lifted the suspension. These aircraft cost $50 million a piece. By using these specific helicopters in a video promoting Ritchie's new tour, Hegseth is sending a clear message to the American people— He doesn't care what you think. He controls our military. He controls our tax dollars. And he's making us pay to make Kid Rock even richer. When Democrats retake power, we are investigating all of this and prosecuting every single crime we find! Please ❤️ and share if you support investigating Pete Hegseth!

I dont understand—once upon a time we had an essentially endless Internet & we did not need these atrocious DataCenters, yet now we supposedly need them when it is obvious Google/Technocrats have limited/censored the Internet to almost nothing. What *extra* Data are they storing?
grist@grist

A proposed data center in California's Imperial Valley would need 750,000 gallons of water a day. Satisfying the thirst of 24 more facilities expected to open in the state will be challenging, experts and officials say. (via @insideclimate) grist.org/drought/califo…
