@Rich_Cooper Why not at least do the math correctly. It's a tiered tax system. You don't pay that on the full amount. For that example, total income is $345,000. 50% of cap gain is included. With tax tiers you then owe $87826 federal, and $37299 provincial. So effectively 36%.

I could go on, but the harder you work, and the more value you create in the economy, the more they punish you in Canada.

@FredLambert I literally heat my house in the winter using a Bitcoin miner as a ducted forced air furnace, instead of baseboard heaters. Same wattage (~2000-3000w) but nicer air flow, and a globally accepted decentralized money back to me.

At some point, our society will fully wake up to how dumb it was to burn electricity for Bitcoin. You are burning a productive asset to get some casino chips.

@The_Big_Nuts @LynAldenContact @dampedspring @SantiagoAuFund You are perhaps speaking from a privileged geographical location. The 'why does it matter' argument obviously does not matter to you, but it might matter a lot to someone else in another part of the world.

If the custodian is banking physical metal and we have 1:1 issuance and 3rd party audits, why does the self custody matter unless there is an inherent reason a particular need to freeze assets? Criminals, terrorists, etc. I've had these discussions with @SantiagoAuFund as to the US push for issuance into stable coins ... in my view the fastest way to kill that would be unreasonable actions by the government vs. These products again other than for national security or criminal organizations etc. But if somebody wants to save in gold and be able to have it portable or send it etc. Assuming for typical user $250k to $20M I think XAUT is going to eat BTC's lunch as long as the issuer (Tether) is vaulting 1 to 1 and there are 3rd party audits. I also self custody physical but for a exposure to digital gold I don't think btc can continue to claim that when it has debased from 40 to 1 ... down to 14 to 1 ounces in less than 14 months. You can't claim to be digital gold and yet debase vs. it. @LukeGromen as you know exited btc due to these same issues as to it not even holding up in regards to technology sector let alone metals. If people want to speculate in levered risk assets I have no problem great for them ... but when @saylor tells people there is no 2nd best asset and that btc will eat every other asset and to only hold btc that is a horrible mistake. Your own portfolio is diverse follows the Chris Cole Dragon Portfolio structure and its not all in btc. The concept of all eggs in 1 basket of btc because it's digital gold or "money" is false and it would protect vulnerable investors if more accounts such as yours discussed the value of diversification.

As a new bitcoiner is the bull case? 1. Limited supply results in gains as fiat currency is printed in excess of what is necessary to support the economy (store of value) 2. Use as a medium of exchange for real world transactions 3. Way for emerging market and other unbanked people to hold something besides their local currency It seems to me 1 is true of a lot of things and moves in fads 2. Seems awful for this purpose relative to other forms both fiat and stable. 3, seems literally fully replaced by stable coins. Whats the value proposition?

@jasonpedersen ^^^ That's if everything is running smoothly. It's honestly a little finicky, so unless you enjoy monitoring and tweaking, it would be so annoying.

@jasonpedersen Always worth it if you're replacing electric resistor heat. We replaced 2x1000w baseboards. Break even for completely free depends on miner efficiency. We use an S19jPro at: 2000w x 0.11 cent/KWh = $5.28/day cost. 65TH/s = 0.00003415 BTC /day or $4.26 Canadian at $125k BTC

@jasonpedersen Might be worth looking at this.... Bitcoin miner pool heater. More of an electric for electric replacement though. Prob not worth it if you've got gas heater. We heat our house in winter with a Bitcoin miner. Electric cost is currently equal to saving of Bitcoin earned..free heat

@GrassFedBitcoin Gave this a go last winter with an S9 heating a bathroom and it worked great. Used an S19jPro at 2000w this winter, ducted from basement to main living space, which replaced 2x1000w electric baseboards. So good! Will add another and heat our garage next winter for sure.

Heating your house with Bitcoin miners is obviously the future.

@TronMonGone Looks great! I use a single S19Jpro+ in a similar setup in our basement. One issue I'm having is I was hoping to do more on/off scheduing. But the restart 'tuning' of the Brains software is really finicky. Sometimes no issue, sometimes takes hours to fully ramp up again.
