@TaylorCSargent Smaller $ forces it to be used on rapid R&D to prove idea with DoD eyes watching. Larger $ given to brand new companies might be used to survive off of and extend development times. Better: build commercial success, bring on VC $+DoD interest, solicit to PEOs & big contractors

SBIR/STTR: a good idea, but execution needs work. Many startups no longer pursue SBIRs/STTRs because of the opportunity costs and the low dollar awards. They are also not strong signals for private investors. Would love to see fewer awards with larger dollar amounts.

@PeteModi @NickSinai They have the funds for it but seem to be tied up decision wise. Before engaging in commercial tech they partner with another gov research branch (ARL, NRL) to help facilitate. Further slowing down the process where R&D branch acts as broker
