I've lived on the Island for almost 25 years and dealt with the city several times on the base... almost bought a large lab facility on the base in 2019 (dodged a covid RE bullet that would have bankrupted me for sure). If you want to chat, LMK. I think the move would be to start with the 650 acres given to the VA since the VA abandoned their planned project in December of last year, which pissed the city and local officials off.

If not, watch this. 👇 Why is a 27 year old high school drop out being given the first spot in a civilian DOE modular nuclear reactor initiative. The reactor was recently flown from CA to UT in preparation for its big unveiling on America's 250th birthday. The company which is only 2.5 years old is backed heavily by Luckey Palmer the Anduril Founder/CEO and Shyam Sankar of Founders Films/Palantir/Detachment 201 -all led by a 27 year old kid who did coding for the pentagon prior to his career of running a car repair shop.

The Graham Platner tattoo controversy is not about youthful mistakes. It is about the specificity of the Totenkopf. This is not the widely recognized swastika, it is the specific insignia of the SS units that ran the Nazi death camps. This is the symbol of the executioners. For a self proclaimed military history enthusiast to wear the literal badge of Holocaust executioners for 20 years shows a level of understanding and admiration that cannot be explained away. People tattoo on their body WHO THEY ARE and WHAT THEY LOVE. The Democrats are so desperate to flip a Maine Senate seat that they have abandoned every moral red line they once claimed to hold. They have proven that winning at any cost is their only conviction and the Holocaust is just a cheap political prop to be weaponized only against their opponents. This is not just a betrayal of their voters. It is a total moral collapse.

The “frontier labs can’t explore it all” is definitely true buuuut it’s like the Apple App Store. There are businesses to be built but each frontier model will kill a handful every year by rolling out free versions. There will always be hard to mitigate risks building on top of other people’s platforms. Manufacturing much less so.

It’s not contaminated or rather the contamination has been remediated already by the Navy. The city owns most of the land and could definitely be negotiated with if a developer and/or the feds were ready to invest. Also a big site was reserved for the VA but I think they’ve decided not to go forward which means maybe it would be available through GSA

@Andercot That's not true. It's a contaminated site that requires tremendous investment (it's also very low-lying) before it can be built on. It could work if you adopt unfettered YIMBYism (zero impact fees, unlimited density, no restrictions on land use, instant permits).
