Wrote the final of the echem class I took this sem: prolly the last course I would ever take. From Laplace transforms to Fick’s laws; from double layer capacitance to Fermi level; the learning curve was steep but sweet. Started out UG with quantum chem, & now ending with echem 🥹

We were honored to bring the second cohort of Quad Fellows to the White House as part of our 2024 Summit. Discussing the intersection of leadership and science underscored the importance of international collaboration for a brighter future.

It was a pleasure speaking via the @Caltech Science Journeys Program on October 11! Students & teachers from the local Pasadena area came to campus for this event held at Beckman Auditorium. 🧪

Our Senior Fellow Ambassadors from Cohort 1 played a vital role in the 2024 Quad Fellowship Summit, leading team-building activities and fostering connections between Fellows. Their leadership continues to inspire the next generation of STEM changemakers.

Both Noah Okada and Teja Venkatesa Perumal had transformative experiences as Senior Fellow Ambassadors, connecting deeply with Cohort 2 Fellows. Noah reflected on how meaningful it was to foster collaboration among Fellows from different Quad nations: “Leading team-building activities allowed me to witness firsthand how collaboration and trust form the foundation of meaningful partnerships across disciplines. This role deepened my connection to the Quad Fellowship, as it aligned with my passion for fostering global collaboration and advancing scientific research across borders. I hope the insights I shared with the Fellows will inspire them to face challenges with curiosity and resilience, and to remain committed to the broader mission of using science to solve pressing global issues.” Teja echoed this sentiment, noting how quickly bonds formed: “The best thing about being an SFA is the opportunity to connect intimately with the new cohort of Quad Fellows! Everyone walks into the Quad Summit as strangers, but at the end, you have made friends for life! The energy, excitement, and curiosity is palpable! Everyone wants to work together to bring about change and solve big problems.” For both Noah and Teja, seeing this level of engagement solidified the importance of cross-disciplinary connections in driving change.

Last week @QuadFellowship summit, I met many gov officials @WhiteHouse working on Quad & Indo-Pacific. I was later invited to @AusintheUS to talk about my life & STEM journey. I also discussed about my interests in strengthening clean energy supply chains in the Indo-Pacific.

I was there as the Indian representative from Cohort 1. It was incredible to hear @DeputySecState talk so passionately about the @QuadFellowship and also his own experience as an international student in his 20s. We also got to meet many scientists working on policy @StateDept

It was a packed day full of interesting organometallic chemistry! Excited for the next year’s meeting @CaltechCCE

The history of AI research is littered with misplaced optimism about the pace of developments. Researchers were making big strides in the mid 20th century - in 1965, Herbert Simon was predicting that within 20 years, machines would be able to do all the work humans could do...

Sure but AI researchers have incentives to say that - their funding relies on persuading financial backers that they will keep making big brealthroughs quickly. LLMs are impressive and can improve research productivity but AGI is far away
