Sources say, Congress also likely to insist TVK not to seek support from BJP or any of the NDA constituents to form the Government. If TVK agrees, this would help Congress to convince VCK, CPI, CPM and IUML to extend support to TVK.

My sincere thanks to the Honorable Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha for the call and kind wishes! We shall remain committed to excellence in public service, and preserving the cultural ethos of our state which requires collective cooperation. Beyond politics, we shall prioritize for the welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu.
Rahul Gandhi@RahulGandhi

I spoke to Thiru Vijay and congratulated him on TVK’s spectacular result. This mandate reflects the rising voice of youth which cannot, and will not, be ignored. My heartfelt thanks to the Congress workers of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for their hard work and support. I reiterate that the Congress party will continue to protect and serve the people of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Meanwhile, TVK is moving fast on government formation, making it clear it will take support from any party except DMK. Talks are on with several players, with a clear preference for smaller parties for smoother coordination. Congress has officially extended support, while the Communist parties have sought time till May 8 to decide. TVK is also tracking divisions within AIADMK, with one section open to outside support and another leaning towards the opposition. Vijay has spoken to the Governor, and with a grand swearing-in planned on the 7th, the focus is shifting to governance and a tighter, more accountable administration. * TVK opens to support from all parties, rules out DMK * Congress formally extends support to TVK * Talks underway with multiple parties to shore up numbers * Preference for smaller parties for smoother coordination * AIADMK seen divided on backing a TVK government * One faction open to outside support, another prefers opposition * No power-sharing if AIADMK extends support: TVK * Communist parties seek time till May 8 to convey decision * Vijay speaks to Governor; swearing-in on May 7 planned * Early focus on women’s safety, youth, anti-drug steps and governance tightening

Many (inside and outside our party) are critical about the fact we did not align with TVK. It was a collective decision of the party. There is no point talking about the past and indulging in any blame game. That we did not act in an opportunistic manner after a 20 year alliance with DMK, which has been mutually beneficial to both parties, is being appreciated by many. We have the local body elections coming up in 6 months and then there are the 2029 parliamentary elections. Looks like Tamilnadu will continue to prefer regional parties over national parties...we should try and keep the limited space that is there for national parties to ourselves and not cede it to the BJP (cannot happen unless we act very foolishly). We should be practical (keeping in mind the upcoming elections) while making alliance decisions without compromising on our core value of secularism.

Look at the table👇. DMK did not win these seats alone. The results clearly show that many DMK victories came with very narrow margins, and in a coalition election, every alliance partner matters. Congress, VCK, MDMK, Communist parties and the other partners all contributed to the overall victory, and it is misleading and cheap to claim that every seat belongs only to DMK. The truth is simple: an alliance wins because the alliance works together. When a candidate wins by 138, 579, 843, 1,131, 1,492, or even 4,943 votes, that margin reflects the combined effort of the alliance, not the strength of one party alone. So it is wrong to erase the contribution of Congress and the other partners while taking credit for the whole result. Dear D-Stocks, be magnanimous. #TNElectionResult #Congress #TVKVijay#DMK

When the entire Madurai DMK is losing to TVK, Congress won its own in Melur. Mayiladuthurai a traditional Congress seat and Not to mention Kanyakumari is always for Congress where you also gain from us. So stop these stereotypes Saravanan. In many seats DMK also won from Congress votes. In the recent days, it was your IT wing guys. Your paid YouTubers and DMK paid so called journalists trolled us and our Rahul ji more than Sanghis. Don’t try to take credit on everything, that’s a substandard attitude. Stop these stereotypes @saravofcl and ”because of us only” statements. People are tired.
Saravanan Annadurai@saravofcl

The 5 seats congress was able to win in this elections was due to DMK. When the BJP/RSS was trolling Rahul Gandhi as “Pappu” it was our leader #MKStalin who declared him as the Prime Ministerial Candidate. Just putting things in a perspective.

#WATCH | Thiruvananthapuram, Keralam: When asked about the chief ministirial candidate for newly-elected UDF government, Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed says, "...Congress party has a certain discipline. There will be a meeting of the MLAs, an observer will come. MLAs will meet the MLAs, the observer and various leaders. then it will go to the high command, and a decision will be taken. Depending upon popularity, seniority, who has done the hard work, all those things will be taken into consideration. It is not like the BJP who selects puppets like we have seen in Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan. We don't do that...

#WATCH | Thiruvananthapuram | On Keralam election results, Congress leader K. Muraleedharan says, "We got 102 when we were expecting 100 due to an anti-incumbency wave. Even local CPM workers voted in favour of UDF. This is the reason for UDF's success. We must give priority to the development work and not go by the previous govt's record..." "It will be decided by the Congress Legislative Party, and the decision will be taken by the Congress High Command. The decision will be taken within a week. Within 10 days, our ministry will be formed."

TVK President Thiru Vijay has requested the Indian National Congress for support to form a Government in Tamil Nadu. He has spoken about drawing inspiration from Perumthalaivar Kamaraj as well, in his political mission. The INC is clear that the mandate in Tamil Nadu is for a secular government that is committed to protecting the Constitution in letter and spirit. The INC is determined not to have the BJP and its proxies run the Govt. of Tamil Nadu in any manner. Accordingly, the Congress leadership has directed the TNCC to take a final decision on Thiru Vijay's request, keeping in view the sentiments of the state reflected in the electoral verdict.

Congress is set to formally back TVK, with its letter of support to the Governor to be sent tomorrow. It will also extend official support to TVK but with clear riders — no tie-up with any NDA ally, including AIADMK, and a push for power-sharing. Which means congress support to TVK is effectively conditional on both alliance lines and a defined role in government.

Dear @BDUTT ., in 2006 INC extended unconditional support to DMK’s minority govt without any ministerial berths. In 2016, when all other (today’s ) alliance parties DMDK, VCK, CPI CPM and MDMK deserted Karunanidhi and started its own alliance., it’s only Congress stood by DMK and endorsed Karunanidhi as CM candidate. History is important.
barkha dutt@BDUTT

The DMK first endorsed Rahul Gandhi for PM contender ; the Congress seems very willing to dump the DMK for Vijay and gets dubbed as “backstabbers”. One more divorce in the sometimes on, sometimes off marriage called India Alliance ! Unless AIADMK gets to Vijay first!

Some in the Congress, and others, are gloating about TMC’s loss. They need to understand this clearly - the theft of Assam and Bengal’s mandate is a big step forward by the BJP in its mission to destroy Indian democracy. Put petty politics aside. This is not about one party or another. This is about 🇮🇳.

For some time now, the Indian National Congress has been drawing attention to a fundamental problem preventing the economy from achieving higher real GDP growth rates: the sluggishness in private corporate investment. Tax rates have been slashed and the ease of business has allegedly improved substantially. But the intended consequence of these moves – i.e., a boost in private investment – has refused to materialize. Now the scholarly Chief Economic Adviser in the Ministry of Finance has lent his support to our contention by pointing out that post-COVID, India’s largest companies saw their corporate profits grow at 30.8% per annum, even as they refused to invest. This stubborn refusal to invest is itself motivated by several factors – 1. Slow consumer demand growth due to India’s stagnant real wages crisis. In the absence of consumer demand, there is no incentive for India Inc to invest. 2. The ED/CBI/IT Raid Raj which has created an atmosphere of business uncertainty and widespread fear among the investing community. 3. The increasing control of investment-intensive sectors of the economy that the Modi Government has facilitated and encouraged. Modani is the shining example of this cronyism. 4. There is little incentive for corporates to invest independently and accept the risk that comes alongside it when profits can be successfully reaped by making a payment to the Modi Government’s ‘Chanda Lo Dhandha Do’ business counter.

#WATCH | Thiruvananthapuram | On BJP winning three seats in Keralam, state Congress In-charge Deepa Dasmunshi says, "For the last many years, RSS has had their highest number of shakhas in Keralam. Their style of work will help the BJP. But I do feel that Hindutva is not a major issue here because people are very secular... BJP is trying to make 'Congress Mukt Bharat', which will never happen. Keralam is one of the examples of that... There are many reasons why the BJP grew in Bengal because the TMC gave that space to them. I don't think Congress will give the BJP a space to grow."
