Built a company that was every young Nigerian’s dream to be a part of. Understood design and product like no other did before it was cool. Forbes 30 under 30. Tech bro before it became a buzzword. If Nigeria had a young Steve Jobs, it was him. Way ahead of his time. Built a product that could’ve been selar + mainstack + nestuge + selfany combined. He had the early mover advantage. Then just like Jobs, he was set to be ousted from his own company. Forced to sell what he had built. Disappeared to the US. But never stopped building. One day when tech media is serious, they’ll tell the story of Evans Akanno. Till then, let’s keep pretending Cregital and Disha didn’t happen.

lol I doubt he is going to remember. Sometimes in 2021, I added a doc link to an e-book I ghostwrote for a client to a comment on Twitter. @Dehkunle saw it and asked if I wrote it, I said yes. He followed me and then asked if I was opened to a gig. I said the reason I was sharing links on Twitter is cause I want to stop ghostwriting and start doing things that makes me visible like working with startups and companies as I have less than 2 years left in school (LASU). He then said ok if he sees something, he will give. Told me to message him on WhatsApp and that was it. Fast forward to April 2022. I had just finished my last paper for the semester. Came online and saw him sharing one NFT whitelists with the usual engagement style. So I thought let me enter this guy dm maybe he will remember me that he once liked a book I wrote and give me a spot cause no way I’m tagging people for whitelist😂las las he will air me and I’ll chop my L😭 Shamefully I entered his Twitter dm, sent “hello boss Long time and how are you sir” he just replied. “Fine girl, I have totally forgotten you, thank God you messaged me, don’t worry he will message you” I was confused. I haven’t said why I was in the dm. I didn’t understand what he meant and I don’t like to be a bug so I left it that wo carry your whitelist go forward abeg. I went on about my day. That night, I received a message on WhatsApp “Hi, I’m Ayo. Are you available to resume next week? I was told you’re still in school?” Long story short, it happened that before he made the whitelist tweet, he had made one in the morning with a google form for content writer application for a startup. He assumed that was what I saw and came to his Dm. Me in his dm also juggled his memory. (It was later we both got to know this cause my boss was their friend (Dekunle and Danny Walter) and we are often hanging out with their circle of friends on weekends). Anyways about the offer; 1. A little less than 300k monthly salary 2. A fully serviced apartment on the island pending the time we finish MVP and end first seed round. 3. Data 4. Bolt subscription to and fro anytime I have to quickly go to school to do test or any other imp stuff. 4. Endless fully sponsored weekend hangouts.

I really commend his sheer drive to just want to earn a honest living… he had researched and set his focus. The opportunity didn’t meet him idle and without knowledge either. He’s destined for greatness at what he’ll be doing. He’s also well raised.
