@Darius19058 @Ternafi You could have claimed it was AI. But nooo...you prefer to look like someone from Macron's PR team 😫 Even Abiy looks a bit oppressed.

Ethiopia thanks Western Master No. 1 - deep on its knees. Not the UK this time. Not the USA either. Now it’s France’s turn. Same dependency. New flag. Different master. #Africa 😥

@GirmayHabtu @GermanEmbasssy @EllamellaMg Ja stimmt schon.

Nature connected Ethiopia to the Red Sea, Politics disconnected it. But this is only a matter of time! This foreign policy paper demonstrates a critical truth that Eritrea possesses coastline, but coastline alone does not guarantee maritime relevance or port power, or port economy. Modern ports depend on deep and wide economic ecosystems, regional integration, technology, capital, trust, and above all, demand. For decades, we have been discouraged from openly questioning how and why Ethiopia, Africa’s second most populous nation, was rendered landlocked during a fragile transitional period that was as would be dominated by a separatist-minded junta, the TPLF. That historical reality has now changed. A new Ethiopian generation is now critically reexamining history with clarity and courage. Hence, access to the sea is not merely a political issue, it is an existential economic question intrinsically tied to Ethiopia’s future development, strategic autonomy, and national dignity. Yet I remain hopeful that the future need not be defined by disagreement. I believe a peaceful and mutually beneficial resolution is achievable with Eritrea with time, wisdom, and strategic cooperation for the common good of us neighboring peoples. Stability, connectivity, and shared prosperity in the Horn of Africa ultimately serve both Ethiopia and Eritrea alike. A timely and thought-provoking publication worth reading! abren.org/2026/05/11/eco…

Benchmark for lifting of sanctions on #Eritrea is regime change per @_hudsonc! Like Syria, he said! He is currently the managing partner of “54 Advisors”, a business consultancy firm with one employee per Linkedin account. Today, he gave an interview with @addisstandard founder, Tsedale Lemma, who also believes in Abiy's dangerous sea coast ambitions. Much like a mouthpiece of #PP admin, Cam repeated their tired mantra that due to its large size and economy, it deserves to have sovereign sea access. He also repeats their narrative that #UAE and #Ethiopia should be involved in protecting the security of the Red Sea along with other countries. Acting like an adviser or consultant, he says that “Ethiopia has to be doing a better job diplomatically to engage Washington and make its case.” He warns US govt that they should not trust PIA “to do our bidding”, aligning with his earlier statements lamenting that engagement and lifting of sanctions will not create a submissive, tamed Eritrea. Clearly, Cam believes it is in US best interest to seek a subservient client state and not partnership. His benchmark for lifting sanctions against Eritrea is regime change like Syria. His words! His neocolonial mentality! Mind you, Cam complains about Eritrean policies, essentially saying he difficulty accepting that Eritrea follows its own interest! Due to personal motives that cause him moral bankruptcy, he assigns full responsibility to Eritrea with respect to the tension and threat of war that Abiy’s PP regime has been advancing. He notes that Ethiopia’s support of RSF is not helping its case but then claims Eritrea has been the principal destabilizer in the region for the last 20 years. Eritrea has not made claims on Ethiopian sovereign territory while PP regime's daily activity has been promoting the dangerous, irredentist claims on Eritrean territory. But facts can't stand in the way if there is personal gain on the line! It was not Eritrea that invaded Somalia with US support in 2006. It was Ethiopia. Also, it was Ethiopia that occupied sovereign Eritrean territories for two decades until 2020. Meanwhile, it was Eritrea that got sanctioned for not supporting the Somali invasion & to actualize Ethiopian domination of the region as a proxy for US.

@deb30911 @_hudsonc @addisstandard Cameron, the comments show, Eritreans analyze geopolitical reality far more maturely than you ever could. Furthermore, nothing is seen from the (broader) regional context. How successful has the US strategy been so far? These are the cards on the table. Good Americans see this

Is it Washington's expectation that they are going to get a reliable or compliant ally in Eritrea by lifting sanctions and normalizing relations with Asmara? Or do they think that by injecting themselves into Horn politics they will prevent a future war? reuters.com/world/africa/u…

This is the "Saudi Effect".... Saudi Arabia is getting what they wish for the Horn of Africa. Which in all honesty is the best route to take for the sake of peace. UAE has done so much damage and this is a great move to stop/curb Abu Dhabi's genocidal adventurism in the Horn.

#US is set to remove sanctions against #Eritrea, according to an internal US gov. document. The note, sent by the @StateDept to several countries, said the US would rescind "on or around May 4" an executive order signed by Biden imposing the sanctions. reuters.com/world/africa/u…

@_hudsonc The premise of these sanctions was a farce from the start. I'm not surprised by your position; it follows a logic, to use your words. The US imposes sanctions to achieve "something." That has failed, and now they want something in return to lift them. Why should one trust the USA?

To clarify my commentary, my opposition is not to lifting sanctions on Eritrea, per se. There is a logic to it. Isaias is an important and powerful actor in a region of growing strategic importance. My issue is the manner in which such decisions get made. Yes there are upsides But there are also many potential downsides. A decision to lift sanctions cannot be considered in a vacuum as they might have been a few years ago. This is not simply a bilateral matter any more. Beyond that, I question the Administration’s own logic. Engagement without a strategy can be self-defeating. And I don’t believe we have a well articulated Horn or Red Sea strategy. And also, if Trump’s diplomacy is transactional then what do we get for lifting these sanctions? I understand what Isaias and Sisi get, but it’s not clear what the US gets. Isaias is not going to reform internally, he isn’t going to give the US a base. And even if he promised those things, why on earth would we trust him? He has survived through alliance building and then abandonment. Why would now be any different? My commentary was intended to create public debate around all these questions because discussions make for better policies and better outcomes for everyone. Secret talks suggest the US and Boulos are not interested in public debates. We can do better. ✌️
The Horn African Guy@hornafricanguy

@_hudsonc, you were predicting, anticipating & recommending the US to approach Eritrea as EU & Canada made first move. Also, I have read a few times that you opposed unilateral sanctions over multilateral moves. So what is the rationale behind your latest remark?
