This thread will be a living document for articles I find helpful in understanding the gender debate. It's mostly for my own reference, but feel free to go through it if you are new to the topic. 🧵

BREAKING: A federal court has blocked the Idaho law banning transgender student athletes. This is a victory for all women and girls in Idaho. Trans people belong in sports.

@Heret1cGay I didn't understand - surely a white woman and a black woman would at least have one thing in common: the lived experiences of a female sexed body. A "trans woman" wouldn't have that. It didn't make sense to me why that should be lumped into the same category of "women".

@Heret1cGay Had this argument with a friend in Minnesota. She took a gender studies course and started going on about "Different women have different experiences. Black women are a type of woman. Trans women are a type of woman." This was before I knew about "intersectional" feminism.

Other Zionist shit takes: - Palestine was never a state (by that definition any hostile act against the land of native peoples who don't have a concept of statehood is ok) - Palestinians never made productive use of the land (sorry Bibi, Ayn Rand already beat you to this one)

Imagine saying "Native Americans were offered reservations on shitty lands while we manifested our destiny, but they insisted on killing Whites". Yeah they kinda have a good reason to. You don't have to agree but you can at least understand that perspective.

I live in the US now, partly because the police in the uk defer to transvestites the way the Gardai used to defer to priests.

@Glinner @Glinner Can’t you call the police and report his posts as causing extreme offence? You know if it were the other way around we would be getting a visit from police. Do it. Report this cunt.

@janeclarejones I think a lot of Republicans are idiots but try getting any sex-realist legislations passed without their support. Or are you expecting a massive wave of GC Dem lawmakers to stampede out of the caves? I'll wait.

@Heret1cGay If "transgender" simply referred to people who live outside of gender norms, I would have no problem with it... other than that it would be completely unnecessary if we stopped obsessing over gender to begin with.

Video shows Kate Bornstein & Leslie Feinberg talking in 1996. These were arguably the most influential transgender activists at the time. Both Bornstein & Feinberg had a maximalist understanding of the word - which was a broad coalition of people living outside gender norms.

Many trans activists are desperate to have people believe that “transgender” has a stable meaning and has so since time immemorial. It hasn’t - the meaning of the word only became stable in the 21st century. Even back in 1996, the word’s meaning was fuzzy and nebulous.
Heretic Gay@Heret1cGay

@wowwowza @buffellaslay @Lungbarrow1 A lovely video from 1996 here. I dunno Helen, I can't hear them saying that "transgender" is a stable phenomenon which only means - what did you say "assumed binary transgender" - they seem to be saying the complete opposite. But of course, I'm just "memorializing my idiocy".

@CoderHighway @BevJacksonAuth And that is why I describe myself as "loving but not kind" (stolen from "The Rabbi's Cat"). In many situations "kindness" ends up causing harm. I would rather be loving - and sometimes that means being unkind.

@CoderHighway @BevJacksonAuth I think that happens once the "kindness" instinct has been hijacked ("if you don't do this intolerant thing I am telling you, you are in fact being unkind!"), so the person who started out the kindest ends up the most militant and intolerant.

She thinks sex consists in chromosome combinations? Even that can't be right, since she uses the example of "XY and you present as a woman" ... as a sex? Is she saying the category "sex" is composed of (1) every human chromosome combination AND (2) every possibly human gender presentation"? And is she suggesting this hybrid definition between chromosome combinations and social gender presentations is CLEARLY and UNEQUIVOCALLY the scientific meaning of "sex"?

American Anthropological Association President Carolyn Rouse: "All you need to do is literally type into Google and see that we know, factually, that there are different types of 'sexes' and 'genders.' You can have XY and you present as a woman, you can have XXY — they’re all variations, genetic variations. So the idea that there are two sexes is just factually incorrect, and to force biological anthropologists to teach that is the equivalent of turning an astronomy department into an astrology department." h/t @robsica /1

@byrne_a @CattyArt1 Ask Google "is sex bimodal" and it'll give an accurate answer (sex is binary, presentation is bimodal). Carolyn doesn't know how to Google.
