If I had not re-sworn the oath, then based on a law from 1866, I could be fined, subjected to legal action, and my seat "shall be vacated in the same manner as if [I] were dead". This should change, so MPs have the choice to swear allegiance to our constituents and democracy.

After omitting to swear allegiance to King Charles' “heirs and successors” last week, I've had to take the oath again in order to sit in the House of Commons. The majority of the public are committed to democracy, and so I hope one day MPs can swear an oath based on those values.

Julian Assange is free. Julian exposed the crimes of the powerful. His incarceration was — and always will be — a grotesque miscarriage of justice. Never stop fighting for the truth. Never lose hope. Never, ever give up.

Unless Labour announces its dropping the 2 child limit to lift 250,000 children out of poverty it’ll be hung round the neck of Labour spokespersons when they go on air up to the election. Arguing children have to remain in poverty to secure economic stability doesn’t cut it.

Proud to support the student encampment at @SOAS today. Well done for taking a stand against your institution’s complicity in Israel’s war crimes against the Palestinian people. You — and students around the world protesting for peace — have my full solidarity.

To every political leader and journalist making and writing speeches: You can't save Navalny. You *can* still save Assange. If you're silent here, when and where you can actually influence the outcome, you were never standing up for principles—you were just hoping for applause.
Edward Snowden@Snowden

The outrageous part of the UK's years-long "trial" to condemn Julian Assange to die in an American dungeon is that the victim of his "crime" (journalism) is a state rather than a person—the definition of a political offense, which the US-UK extradition treaty explicitly forbids.

I hope every single MP who considers themselves ‘left-wing’ is out on the streets today in support of the Palestinians in their gravest hour. We can do without them hiding behind a fear of Keir Starmer’s reprisals. Some things are more important. Take a stand.

@Keir_Starmer This from the man who kept his 50k support from Israeli lobbyist secret in his leadership bid. He is a disgraceful.

I utterly condemn the ongoing attacks on Israel and her citizens. There is no justification for this act of terror which is being perpetrated by those who seek to undermine any chance for future peace in the region. Israel has a right to defend herself.

The treatment of Diane Abbott — Britain’s first female Black MP — is a disgrace. The latest stitch-up represents yet another flagrant attack on local democracy. A lifelong anti-racist campaigner, Diane deserves so much better. So do party members being treated with contempt.

As a Black woman, and someone on the left of the Labour Party, I have unfortunately been forced to reach the conclusion that I will not get a fair hearing from this Labour leadership.

Last image of #MahsaAmini alive moments before being severely beaten for showing hair from under her hijab. In a coma for two days before dying from her head injuries Sept 16th. Her name has become the most shared hashtag of all time. A name that sparked 11 months of ongoing nationwide and global protests. 1 year anniversary will be highly significant. The countdown started. T-minus 1 month.

Six more people have died in the Channel trying to reach a place of safety. Shame on our government for creating the market for these perilous routes. And shame on many in our media for stoking racism, hatred and fear. Where is our humanity?

I am heartbroken by this utterly appalling loss of life. And I am sick and tired of ritual expressions of sympathy by those who condemned these human beings to death. Governments across Europe have blood on their hands — and we demand justice. bbc.co.uk/news/world-eur…

What an inspiring & enlightening evening at #TheGreenRoom! @johnwoolrich2 talking with Katie Szyzko amongst 40 friends & artists. In his inimitable way, John peppered his talk with revelatory comments about dozens of composers, giving deep insights into how he makes his art.

My friend Mick Bowman is walking from the UK to Palestine. It will take him six months & 2000 miles. He is doing it to raise awareness of the persecution of Palestinian people at the hands of the Israeli state. Follow Mick’s walk & offer support here: facebook.com/profile.php?id…
