This afternoon, we visited De Heus Uganda Ltd, a tilapia feed factory in Jinja, which Chairman @Odrek_Rwabwogo described as a turning point for Uganda's food security & export competitiveness. He identified three major areas of impact: ▶️ Strengthening Food Security: “No country can grow animal production without reliable feed. With Uganda’s growing population, feed factories like De Heus will be critical to ensuring food safety, food security, and incomes for our people.” ▶️Building Local Expertise & Export Growth He commended the young Ugandan professionals at De Heus working as production experts and quality controllers. With more companies like this, Uganda can certify, standardize, and compete globally, producing up to 1 million tons of fish, unlocking USD 1.5 billion in foreign exchange. ▶️Driving Demand for Local Crops De Heus consumes 11,000 MT of soya, 12,000 MT of maize, and 8,000 MT of cassava at half capacity. At full capacity, this will double—presenting a huge opportunity for farmers in Busoga, Acholi, and other regions to supply grains consistently and benefit from stable markets. Bon Tjeenk Willink, Managing Director of De Heus Uganda, outlined the company’s ambitious target of producing over one million tons of feed annually by 2035.
