Ukraine Could Become a NATO Member Instead of the United States If the US exits NATO, Ukraine could take its place. According to some experts, Ukraine’s membership would only require formal legal procedures, as the country is already de facto acting as part of the Alliance.

America just fired twelve generals mid-war and is now asking Europe to send its children in to help. The man running this operation hosted a TV show. Europe can see that. The whole world can see that. And everyone is reaching the same conclusion at roughly the same speed. No. Gandalv / @Microinteracti1

A small Ukrainian riverine USV called “Ursula” can quietly tow up to 500 kg of cargo for 10 km. This discreet, battery-powered craft is intended to supply forces holding islands in the Dnistr River near Kherson.

Russian riverine “Sirius-82” USVs install YaRM shallow-water sea mines in the Dnipro River. The intention is to interdict Ukrainian resupply boats to the contested islands near Kherson. 1/

I am not sure the American military establishment has fully grasped what Trump has actually done here. So let me spell it out in language even a Pentagon procurement officer can understand. Europe has been buying American weapons at a staggering rate. In 2024 alone, US foreign military sales notifications to European countries hit $76 billion. Four times the European average since 2008. F-35s, missile systems, air defence, ammunition. All of it American. All of it coming with decades of service contracts, maintenance agreements, spare parts, software updates and training programmes worth hundreds of billions more over their operational lifetimes. Between 2020 and 2024, the United States supplied 64 percent of all European weapons imports. That is now over. Europe has an $860 billion defence plan, and American contractors are being frozen out. The goal is 80 percent of all military purchases from European factories by 2030. Airbus. Rheinmetall. KNDS. Saab. Leonardo. BAE Systems. They are about to receive the largest order book in the history of European defence industry. Because Trump made it politically impossible for any European government to keep writing cheques to Washington. Some European governments have discussed worries that the Pentagon could remotely disable American F-35 fighters or impose restrictions on how US weapons can be used. When your supplier is also threatening to annex your allies, that is not paranoia. That is basic procurement logic. Trump set out to make America great again. He has succeeded magnificently. For Rheinmetall. Gandalv / @Microinteracti1

🇺🇦🇷🇺 THIS is what “strategic depth” looks like now Russia isn’t winning, it’s literally burning behind its own lines Bashneft-Novoil in Ufa, one of the key refineries feeding fuel into the system, now lighting up the sky, hundreds of kilometers from the front That’s the thing, distance doesn’t protect anymore, when assets this deep start going up, it hits supply, transport, revenue, everything at once Call it “regional news” if you want, but every fire like this chips away at the engine keeping the war running

There is a moment in every relationship when you cross a line so spectacularly that no apology can quite cover it. America crossed that line. Then kept going. Since Trump took office, the United States has threatened to annex its closest neighbor, tried to grab a Danish territory, attacked its oldest allies, declared the EU an enemy, mocked soldiers who died under the NATO flag, praised the man those soldiers were buried defending against, hosted Kremlin officials in the actual Capitol building, rigged European elections in favor of parties that want to tear Europe apart, betrayed Ukraine in front of the entire world, and slapped punitive tariffs on every friend it had left. At some point this stops being controversial foreign policy. It becomes a declaration of intent. So when Washington arrived demanding allied support for what history will likely record as the most catastrophically misconceived military adventure since someone thought Iraq would be quick and easy, the answer was no. Non. Nein. No. Because you do not march alongside a country that spent two years making clear it considers you the enemy. America did not lose its allies. It fired them. Systematically, gleefully, and on camera. And now it is losing a war. Alone. The way you fight when you have spent years ensuring there is nobody left willing to stand next to you. Wars reveal true colors. Gandalv / @Microinteracti1

When this is over, the western part of NATO will never be the same. Spain, England, France and Italy have sold us out, as they too often have a history of doing. Eastern European nations are the heart of NATO. They spend money on defense, know how to fight and love the US. France particularly deserves fault and blame. From supporting China and Russia at the UN to denying Americans overflight rights, they’re doing what they’ve always done - showing weakness, while cutting deals with terrorists. (The reason the US has a Marine Corps and Navy is unlike France, we refused to pay a ransom to the Barbary Pirates. France is always happy to cut a deal.) Wars have unintended consequences as nations show their true colors. NATO will never be the same, and Western European weakness and acquiescence is the cause.

No serious nation in the history of warfare has spent fourteen months insulting its allies, siding with their common enemy, and then knocked on their door expecting them to rescue a catastrophe of its own making. You abused the UK. Threatened Canada. Tried to grab Greenland. Called the EU an adversary. Praised Putin. Hosted Kremlin officials in the Capitol. Abandoned Ukraine. And did all of it loudly, proudly, and on camera. And now you are surprised that nobody is returning your calls. You want European boots on the ground? Start by explaining why America is more aligned with Moscow than with Brussels. Take your time. We will wait. Gandalv / @Microinteracti1

The Europeans are not dealing with “a man.” They are dealing with the United States of America. The United States needed the most innocuous kind of cooperation from them. They denied the United States that cooperation. The implied argument is that their obligations within our alliance depend on whether they like the guy we chose as our president. “Sure, we’re allies…if we approve of who you elected.” Nope. We are not going to forget, and we’re not going to forgive. I’m indifferent to their excuses or their rationalizations. The United States of America needed their help and not very much help. They turned us down. That changes everything. And they aren’t going to like how it changes everything.

Right then. Since Trump took office, the United States has threatened to annex Canada, threatened to seize Greenland, attacked Denmark, insulted the UK, labeled the EU an adversary, mocked fallen NATO soldiers, praised Putin, hosted Kremlin officials in the Capitol, interfered in European elections on behalf of far-right parties, blackmailed Ukraine, eased sanctions on dictators, and imposed tariffs that damaged everyone including themselves. At some point, when you behave like an enemy, your allies start treating you like one. So when Washington came looking for support for what may go down as the worst-planned war in modern history, the answer from Paris, Berlin, London and Rome was a unified and entirely predictable no. Not because they are weak. Not because they sold anyone out. But because you do not send your sons to die alongside a country that just spent two years threatening to absorb your neighbors and calling your alliance a corpse. Eastern Europe is serious about defense. Poland gets it. The Baltic states get it. They always have. But even they are watching this Iranian catastrophe unfold and quietly thanking whatever god they pray to that they kept their troops at home. Wars reveal true colors. Correct. And right now, America is losing one it started alone, fought alone, and will have to explain alone. Gandalv / @Microinteracti1

Right then. Let me explain something very slowly, because it appears some basic logic has gone missing somewhere over the Atlantic. No serious nation in the history of warfare has spent fourteen months insulting its allies, threatening to annex their territory, siding with their common enemy, and then knocked on their door expecting them to come running to rescue a catastrophe of its own making. That is not how alliances work. That is not how anything works. You abused the UK. You threatened Canada. You tried to grab Greenland. You called the EU an adversary. You praised Putin, the one man every serious NATO ally has spent decades preparing to fight. You hosted Kremlin officials in the Capitol. You undermined European elections. You abandoned Ukraine. You imposed tariffs on your closest partners. You did all of this loudly, proudly, and on camera. And now you are surprised that nobody is returning your calls. Here is a question worth sitting with. Why do you think that is? Is it possible, just possible, that when you treat your allies like enemies for over a year while cuddling up to their actual enemy, those allies might update their opinion of you? Is that concept too complicated? Does that require more working memory than is currently available? You did not plan this war with your allies. You did not consult them. You did not build a coalition. You started a conflict, watched it go sideways, and then got on your knees asking for help from people you spent fourteen months calling weak, corrupt and irrelevant. NATO is not what it was. Not because Europe changed. Because Washington made crystal clear which side it is on. And it is not ours. You want European boots on the ground? Start by explaining why America is more aligned with Moscow than with Brussels. Take your time. We will wait. Gandalv / @Microinteracti1

The casuistry here is remarkable. This is the simple reality: Like most Americans, most Europeans think this war is a bad idea.Their governments are being asked to take a huge risk by a man who has proved unreliable, volatile and intemperate over and over. Who would do that?
