This is crazy. The hacker installed a dead-man's switch that will wipe your computer if you revoke the GitHub token they stole from you. Revoking the token is what triggers the wipe.

TANSTACK@tan_stack

SECURITY ADVISORY — TanStack npm packages A supply-chain compromise affecting 42 @tanstack/* packages (84 versions total) was published to npm earlier today at approximately 19:20 and 19:26 UTC. Two malicious versions per package. Status: ACTIVE — packages are deprecated, npm security engaged, publish path being shut down. Severity: HIGH — payload exfiltrates AWS, GCP, Kubernetes, and Vault credentials, GitHub tokens, .npmrc contents, and SSH keys. If you installed any @tanstack/* package between 19:20 and 19:30 UTC today, treat the host as potentially compromised: • Rotate cloud, GitHub, and SSH credentials immediately • Audit cloud audit logs for the last several hours • Pin to a prior known-good version and reinstall from a clean lockfile Detection — the malicious manifest contains: "optionalDependencies": { "@tanstack/setup": "github:tanstack/router#79ac49ee..." } Any version with this entry is compromised. The payload is delivered via a git-resolved optionalDependency whose prepare script runs router_init.js (~2.3 MB, smuggled into each tarball at the package root). Unpublish is blocked by npm policy for most affected packages due to existing third-party dependents. All 84 versions are being deprecated with a SECURITY warning, and npm security has been engaged to pull tarballs at the registry level. Full technical breakdown, complete package and version list, and rolling status updates: github.com/TanStack/route… Credit to the security researcher for responsible disclosure.

People understand that LLMs aren't actually "thinking," right?

You are directly feeding into the scare campaign to make LLMs seem many magnitudes more powerful than they are. We need regulation and a moratorium to stop the sprawl and environmental damage as well as the future bubble issues caused by these things going bankrupt. But the kind of “deadly AI” these people are talking about is utterly fictional. The “blackmailing” story, the “breaking containment” story, these were marketing tricks by Anthropic summarized by people who don’t read the system cards. I wish Bernie would not have fallen for the marketing. To be clear we absolutely need regulation for the future and to stop data centers from being built, but let’s talk in terms of what is actually happening vs what the companies want (LLMs are not autonomous AI and do not “think” nor have they shown any sign they might)

So prompt engineers learned English is imprecise for coding and started using stricter syntax. I wonder how long it will take before they come full circle and land back at programming languages again.
Sukh Sroay@sukh_saroy

Prompt engineering is dead. Nobody is writing english to chatbots anymore. The best outputs are coming from people who write prompts like code. It's called json prompting. and once you see it, you can't go back:

Starting in 2027, smartphones sold in the European Union will be required to have user-replaceable batteries designed for greater durability and more charging cycles. Manufacturers must also provide spare parts and repair manuals for at least 10 years after a model is released. This is real pressure against planned obsolescence. It should mean phones that actually last longer, cheaper fixes, and a lot less electronic waste piling up. About time.

Fracking, relaciones con BlackRock, vínculos con Israel, megaproyectos en contra de la voluntad de las comunidades… No ps tremendo gobierno de izquierda el que se traen, eh. Pero más cabronas están las maromas que se echan pa justificarlo.

I don't recall any previous transformative technologies having to be sold so desperately. No one in 1999 was going, "Guys. Cell phone? It's coming, whether we like it or not. I think it's important, FOR WOMEN ESPECIALLY, to learn about cell phone. So that we're not left behind!!"
