@DropSiteNews Pakistan's military establishment removed Imran Khan from power after he precipitated worst crisis for it since a lawyers’ movement forced Musharraf out of power & it later failed to detect Laden’s presence in Abbottabad, Pakistan’s equivalent of Sandhurst mypluralist.com/2022/11/07/imr…

@DropSiteNews Imran Khan’s popularity has been unprecedented in Pakistan’s recent history, and no politician has enjoyed so much public adulation, perhaps since the emergence of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in the 1960s mypluralist.com/2022/10/22/imr…

@MazMHussain Candidates backed by Imran Khan defied odds to become the largest group in Pakistan’s parliament but an alliance of parties, which has lost the people’s trust making them incapable of delivering and most crucially on the economy, was cobbled together again mypluralist.com/2024/02/12/she…

⚡️ Drop Site News has published for the first time the full Cable I-0678 — the classified Pakistani diplomatic telegram dated March 7, 2022, that Imran Khan has cited as evidence of a U.S.-backed conspiracy to remove him from power. The cable, sent from Pakistan’s ambassador in Washington to the Foreign Secretary in Islamabad, documents a luncheon meeting between Ambassador Asad Majeed Khan and U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Donald Lu. According to the cable, Lu told the ambassador that Washington’s grievances with Khan’s government could be set aside if Khan were removed through a no-confidence vote. “I think if the no confidence vote against the Prime Minister succeeds, all will be forgiven in Washington because the Russia visit is being looked at as a decision by the Prime Minister,” Lu said, per the cable. “Otherwise, I think it will be tough going ahead.” In his own assessment, the ambassador wrote that Lu “could not have conveyed such a strong demarche without the express approval of the White House” and had “spoken out of turn on Pakistan’s internal political process.” The cable was marked Secret, No Circulation, and distributed to Pakistan’s Secretary to the Prime Minister, Foreign Secretary, Chief of Army Staff, Director General of the ISI, and the Director of the SSP Section. Khan was removed via no-confidence vote on April 9, 2022, six weeks after the meeting. He has been imprisoned since 2023, and has been held in solitary confinement since last year. 🔗 Read the full Drop Site report tracing how the U.S.-Pakistan relationship moved from mutual suspicion to full political embrace at the link below.

📜Drop Site News is publishing below the full transcript of Cable I-0678 — the classified Pakistani diplomatic cypher dated March 7, 2022, at the center of Imran Khan’s claim that the United States orchestrated his removal from power. The document was previously described by The Intercept, which first reported on its contents in August 2023. The Intercept’s source, who had access to the document as a member of the military, spoke of growing disillusionment with Pakistan’s military leadership and the impact on military morale following its involvement in the political fight against Khan. The source said they hoped the document “would finally confirm what ordinary people, as well as the rank and file of the armed forces, had long suspected about the Pakistani military, and force a reckoning within the institution.” They warned the military was pushing Pakistan toward a crisis similar to the one in 1971 that led to the secession of Bangladesh. Drop Site is now publishing the document in full so that it may be part of the historical record.

@menavisualss History isn’t zero-sum. Recognizing these centers of learning from Global South/Muslim world doesn’t diminish European institutions like Bologna or Oxford. 🏛 Contrary to popular belief, the world’s oldest continuously operating universities aren't Oxford or Bologna. 🇲🇦 The oldest is Al-Qarawiyyin (Morocco), founded in 859 AD by a wealthy Muslim woman, Fatima al-Fihri. 🇪🇬 The second oldest is Al-Azhar in Egypt (970 AD).

From our country’s beginning, for as long as America has embodied freedom and exceptionalism, the soul of our nation has been rooted in the Christian faith. Today we gather, as our forefathers did on this day centuries ago, to rededicate our nation to God.

Le niveau de racisme et d’islamophobie de la marche d’extrême droite à Londres est hallucinant. Ici un « artiste » vient se produire avec du bacon sur les épaules pour éloigner les musulmans.
