@Mark_Sisson I wonder how many SNAP recipients would gladly eat this way, but live in a food desert.

Solid SNAP stack that would change the health of the nation: Ground beef Potatoes Canned sardines Milk or cheese Frozen berries Oranges Eggs Romaine lettuce Beats the hell out of Takis, Pepsi, and Sour Patch Kids. Nothing extravagant. Covers most bases.

Today’s arrest is example one billion and counting why actual adults don’t speculate about collective culpability when you don’t even know who the culpable individual is. Also social media isn’t life. It’s the opposite.

@dvassallo Weird. I agree with you on most of the above, but I don't see how voting for a criminal / rapist is a move towards those values. Rather his corruption and lack of morals will do the opposite. But you do you; It's a free country.

This is my first presidential election as a US citizen. I dislike both candidates, but the country is asking me to make a choice. Today I voted for: - Stronger law enforcement - No mercy on violent crime - More police funding - Harsher penalties for drug dealers - Less wars - Skepticism of foreign intervention - Stronger national defense - Reduce trade dependency with China - Return essential manufacturing to the US - More control on illegal immigration - Less federal oversight on education - More parental rights for gender reassignment in minors - More conservative interpretation of the constitution - Getting rid of mail-in voting - Less DEI nonsense - Elon Musk as secretary of cost cutting

@jessfraz I found when buying concert tickets at the start of the sale window, the dedicated mobile apps work better (i.e. can successfully consummate a purchase faster) than using a browser on a laptop / desktop. I imagine this is true for other things too.

Apparently, Gen Z is making fun of older generations for never buying big ticket purchases on their phone and always using a desktop. I’ve never felt more attacked in my life by something I didn’t realize I was subconsciously doing.

A great way of looking at the conundrum of working remotely, although I imagine the effect scales non-linearly wrt the size of the team.

EXERCISE Let's take advantage of the bitter idiot's interpretation error to look for explamples of how things responded to cheap labor, just as urban sprawl responded to affordable cars. + Larger yards /to cheap gardeners + Larger houses /to cheap household staff, construction & maintenance And consider the effect of the reversal. [This is just a micro analysis, not macro as needs interactions]

@GovofCO Man I miss that place. Bowl a frame or two, play some video games and then hit the water slides. Denver lost a bit of its soul when Celebrity's went away.

Once we have a list of things we could consider then we'll look at it in terms of ease of implementation versus value to stakeholders and make choices based on that, often looking for the low hanging fruit (see below) I quite like the Estuarine maps use of energy / time, it might be a better way of doing this sorting and having that final discussion. I will give it a try.

TIL "adhocracy", from a description of Xerox PARC: "The dominant form of coordination of work in an adhocracy is mutual adjustment, which refers to coordination of work by the simple process of informal communication. Furthermore, the adhocracy is fairly flat, with few layers of management. Roles and organizational responsibilities are fairly loosely defined and highly ambiguous, with individuals given a considerable amount of leeway to choose how to prioritize their time. The process of adjusting to an organization of this sort involves learning what are the appropriate "projects" to work on without any explicit direction offered, and establishing and/or demonstrating competence and trustworthiness in order that other work group members seek out the new member tor projects."

@chadfowler First, I think code in that language would be represented using the shortest possible token stream to make the best use of context. All of that whitespace we humans depend on is noise to the machines. :)

@SwiftOnSecurity Assembled PCs as my job in the early 90s. We said amongst ourselves that every successful PC build demanded a blood sacrifice. I still remember diving in the water at swim team practice and feeling the sting from the cuts on my hands. Reminded me I was still alive, I suppose.

The blood price of early PC builds when manufacturers were rando firms building industrial solutions hot off a machine press where nobody spent time rounding edges. People went to the hospital installing RAM.

@SwiftOnSecurity I remember swapping out a hard drive on one of my first computers, cutting my hand BADLY on a bit of frame near the bay, and wondering why in the hell it was that sharp.

@elonmusk @ylecun @ibeckermayer2 You’re conflating the ability to cast a vote, provisionally or not, with that vote being counted by the state’s Secretary of State. Technically true but misleading. States do things differently but the constitution of my state stipulates the need to prove citizenship to vote.

@ylecun @ibeckermayer2 What have I said that is incorrect? Unlike almost all countries, such as France, you do not need proof of citizenship to vote in the United States. This is absolutely true. There have been many state challenges to this, but they have not yet made it past the appeals court.

1. @elonmusk has spent this week spreading false & misleading information about voting to his 168 million followers Musk used these erroneous claims to justify massive restrictions on voting, including ending early voting and most mail-in voting Follow along for details 🧵
