Frankly the notion that you are implying here that FN are a monolith and would all necessarily oppose independence is pretty laughable and bigoted. In fact most FN we have talked with absolutely hate the treaty system as it stands and would relish an opportunity to renegotiate and improve their standards of living.

Many Treaty Nations (especially in Treaties 6, 7, and 8) view it as a violation of treaty and inherent rights, arguing the original treaties did not cede title to resources or allow unilateral transfer without consent.

Mark Carney on paper appeared more sensible less over the top and not pandering to American style politics. He lost for many reasons.
