@MrsCMFrancis @NCalvinist1689 @Moderatemuch He didn’t say, “‘full salvation.’” He said, “fullness of the MEANS of salvation, especially the sacraments.” (emphasis mine). @NCalvinist1689’s characterization is not an approximation of what was said but imputes an entirely different meaning.

As an Evangelical, I absolutely think that I have many brothers and sister in the Catholic Church. I am asking this sincerely: do Catholics feel the same? (P.s. any bashing on either side in the comments is getting an instant block)

I am very much NOT an integralist, but the piece circulating suggests that the primary dichotomy is “dispensationalist versus integralist,” which is extremely silly. You can criticize Israel’s policy aims and/or object to armed conflict without being an “integralist,” and you can support Israel’s policy aims without being a dispensationalist. Catholics do not accept dispensationalism, but that does not mean we have to hate Israel or hate Jews. Dispensationalists do not have to begin a war with Catholics in order to defend Israel. Unfortunately, confounding politics and theology bears no good fruit. Theology should inform politics, but they aren’t the same.
Jon Schweppe 🇺🇸@JonSchweppe

My Catholic faith informs my worldview. I guess to some folks on the political Right that qualifies as “integralism” which is apparently an “anti-American” ideology. Noted.

He was DEFEATED ELEVEN TIMES. Attacked. Threatened with DEATH. Nearly blind. Addicted to opium just to function. They told him to stop. He spent forty-six years refusing. His name was William Wilberforce. Born in Hull, 1759. He could have lived a comfortable life. Wealthy family. Safe seat in Parliament. Instead he chose to destroy the most powerful economic system in the British Empire. The slave trade. He didn't fight alone. Thomas Clarkson rode 35,000 miles gathering evidence. Olaudah Equiano, man who had been enslaved himself, gave testimony that no politician could ignore. Wilberforce took their evidence to Parliament. They voted no. He came back. They voted no. He came back. Lost by eight votes. MPs deliberately stayed away so they wouldn't have to choose a side. He came back. Again. And again. And again. By now his eyesight was nearly gone. His body was breaking. He'd been on opium since he was 29. Twenty years after he started, they voted again. 283 to 16. The slave trade was abolished. But he wasn't finished. Slavery itself was still legal. He fought for another twenty-six years. In July 1833, lying in bed, barely able to move, he received word. Parliament had voted. Slavery was abolished across the entire British Empire. Three days later, William Wilberforce died. He held on just long enough. They buried him in Westminster Abbey. Help keep our stories alive. proudofus.co.uk/support Be part of us. Be Proud Of Us. 🇬🇧

@ger_tzedek @lithiumionfire If it said “New York,” “Kings” and “Richmond,” it should say “Bronx.” But since it says “Manhattan,” “Brooklyn” and “Staten Island” respectively, it should say “The Bronx.”

Put the two maps together, and you see the source of power for the RW base in America - as well as our best hope for the future. The Red on the raw vote margins map show where we heavily outnumber the Dems - not percentages or empty space, but people. Most of these people 1/

@willems_steph If memory from high school serves, there was a border dispute. Each side secretly had a map which suggested the OTHER side was right about the dispute. So both sides had an incentive to settle. Which they did somewhere in the middle.

Why is this area the U.S.? Why can't we just drive straight east from Sherbrooke and save 3 hours on a drive to Nova Scotia? No one lives there!

What Miami needs to really be a tier 1 finance hub that is seriously competitive to NYC, Chicago, Texas cities, etc: -More F500 HQs. Dallas has American Airlines, Texas Instruments, AT&T; Houston has all the energy companies; Austin has Tesla -More large banks. Dallas isn't NYC, but it has Comerica, Texas Capital; Houston has Amegy and all the bulge bracket energy offices -Get UMiami to Public Ivy status. Venture capital clusters in cities around top schools because this is where the new cutting edge research is happening (Boston with Harvard/MIT, San Francisco with Stanford, even Austin with UT) This all creates an ecosystem that reinforces itself. People go to where the people they want to meet and do business with are. Hedge funds and PE are sexy, but ultimately finance is about real businesses and allocation of capital for things like CAPEX and FTE hires. It's not just about trading The alternative is Miami-West Palm becomes a US version of Monaco, meaning a UHNW wealth management hub, but not really a place for IB or corporate finance. This will attract hedge funds to get closer to their LPs, but it will limit the ceiling if Miami just becomes a one trick only in that regard. I think Miami can do more.

@dilanesper Right. The New York City Board of Estimate got eliminated only because SCOTUS said it was unconstitutional. Greater New York would never have happened without it. And the SCOTUS decision effectively eliminated the boroughs in every but name.

Matt doesn't know the history. Prior to Reynolds v. Sims, they absolutely did, and still would if it were not unconstitutional.

@MemoryMedieval Of course they are. Confusion comes with different senses of the term “West” stemming partly, but not entirely, from the Cold War. Russia is part of Western Civilization too, even though you will regularly hear things on news reports like “the West is pushing back on Russia.”
