i'm obsessed with these MIT Maker Portfolios this is the best one i've ever seen. this is real engineering. how does he only have 3 followers? Ethan built: 01. omni-directional wheels / swerve modules 02. a mechanical integrator that does calculus with moving parts 03. a polar plotter that can draw all sorts of wild patterns 04. a modded Ender 3 that he turned into a CoreXY claw machine 05. a cycloidal gearbox 06. a 5-axis 3D printer and slicer inspired by Joshua Bird's 4-axis design now he's working on a compact, battery-powered, ultra-portable expanding 3D printer a body of work like this usually takes a full team years Ethan did it before college this guy is an absolute machine if anyone deserves more support, it’s him
Ethan Gao@ga0_lab

I built this portable 3d printer. it folds flat, and a scissor lift lets it expand to print big objects. It's CoreXY, uses fishing line for the motion system, has a direct drive extruder, and the option of storing an 8-hour print time battery or an entire filament spool inside

Whoever creates the best mission patch for The Lighthouse Makerspace will win a small care package from one of our sponsors, along with one of every patch and sticker we produce. Everyone who submits a design will receive some of the stickers we produce, and we may include other items as well once everything is ready. Post your designs in the #patches-and-stickers channel on our Discord (link in bio and below). Please leave space for sponsor names on both the patches and stickers. We also have some huge announcements coming very soon. Stay tuned.

@nicks_robots @proceptionAI You mean something like this? We haven’t tried it because it interferes with manipulation tasks, and honestly, it looks a bit creepy.

"CAD-based workflows penalize iteration, whereas computational models allow us to be even playful with the design of complex objects." 💯 Spot on, aiming to do this specifically for actuator design with a bunch of the recent tooling focus
LEAP 71@leap_71

Noyron allows us to design complex machinery and iterate at unprecedented speeds. Experimentation is the mother of innovation. CAD-based workflows penalize iteration, whereas computational models allow us to be even playful with the design of complex objects.

Finally working :) The 1st home robot that's really easy to set up (< 30min for your 1st task), community-driven (if someone teaches it how to grab a beer and bring it to them, it’ll be able to do it too), and low-cost. Shipping 50 units soon. Link below if you want to join the private WhatsApp group.

What can you build with a fully open robotics model in a weekend? 🤖 Robotics engineer @pham_blnh used MolmoAct 2, our open vision-language-action model, in the voice-controlled robot that won @southpkcommons' AI hackathon. Watch our interview with him ↓ 🎥

The two bottom right gears’ D bore got stripped because the motor gets too hot. What material should I print it in instead?

Robotics is getting its Raspberry Pi moment. This solves one of the biggest frictions in Physical AI: Everything has been fragmented. Different tools for control. Sensors. Calibration. Learning. Now it’s one unified stack: • motor control to VLA models in one system • built for real hardware, not just simulation -> norma_core_dev just entered PUBLIC ALPHA. The real unlock is ElRobot: • 7+1 DOF arm • fully 3D printable • ~220$ cost • ships with CAD, URDF, full build guide Not a demo… Infrastructure. And the part most people will underestimate: auto-calibration for any robot No manual tuning. No trial and error. Just: code → hardware → working system That removes one of the biggest hidden bottlenecks in robotics. Which unlocks: • faster iteration • cheaper experiments • real-world data loops Exactly what Physical AI needs. We’re moving from: “Can we make it work?” to “How fast can we improve it?” Thank you so much for sharing, @ErickSky! 📍Repro: github.com/norma-core/nor… Credit: normacore.dev

It's clear to me that a message from Roko's Basilisk caused Sam Bankman-Fried to destroy the reputation of Effective Altruism and I can't understand why no one is talking about it oh shit I understand now fuck.

I'm becoming more and more convinced that robotics needs a benchmark to move forward as an industry. From my rudimentary study of this: the history of a benchmark directly correlates with the history of the industry itself. For example in AI: Someone invents a benchmark (ImageNet Recognition Challenge)-> people optimize for it -> the field organizes around it as a response (GoogLeNet, VGG, ResNet) -> benchmark saturates -> researchers realize they're measuring a proxy -> new benchmarks emerge It doesn't seem to be a matter of just tracking progress, but moving the entire field forward by creating a focus to unionize progress around.
