“Dunesday” is absolutely not even close to being the same as Barbenheimer. That was counterprogramming. Barbie and Oppenheimer were targeting totally different audiences. Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three are fighting for the same audience, and no matter what, both movies’ box office will be smaller. Doomsday will obviously beat Dune, but it won’t make as much as it could without Dune releasing on the same day. It also doesn’t have IMAX screens.

What Lawrence Jones is describing as a “trap” is just called diplomacy. You ask allies to join a war. They say no. That is allowed. That is, in fact, the entire point of having allies rather than vassals. Germany is the fourth largest economy in the world. Italy is the eighth. Japan is the third. None of them are on America’s payroll. But do carry on. Every time someone on Fox explains why Europe should do what it’s told, approximately four more European defence budgets get approved.
