Casino Royale, Sherlock Holmes, Knives Out, Oppenheimer HTTYD 2 are some that NEVER were number 1. It is beyond nuggatory. Weekend 3 is the key here

generally, theaters were a dumping grounds for parents to leave their kids occupied while they did their thing or whatever. a lot of the monsters movies were b-movies schlock "RUN FROM THAT JELLY FISH MAN!" and they'd come with advertising "most horrifying! you will scream" NOTLD was met with the same advertisement as a "oh no run from the ghouls!" when it would stroll into town and people just stopped believing in those ads so they dropped their kids off not knowing what was in store... the R rating was brought in that same year for movies....

Hey @ScottMendelson I know #SheepDetetives is relitively effects heavy, because of the sheep,, but is the $75m also down to it being an Amazon film..as in is it a streaming inflated budget, or was it just that expensive because of the talent: writing, directing, acting & vfx?

Many films overperforming at the #boxoffice but one which is not getting much attention is #TheSheepDetectives. Can we give it a shout out? 3rd wknd down just 4% from 2nd wknd, great legs! Might get to $75M+ domestic. Terrific result for live-action family movie not based on any well-known brand.
