Controversial opinion: The UK should have no NHS. We should take responsibly for our own health, our own emergency savings and not be so reliant on the state.

@littlebillie Peeling garlic should take a matter of seconds. Heel slap with bounce to impart impulse rather than energy. Garlic presses do usually suck though.

Why would I use jarlic when I could dirty a knife and cutting board and spend 10 minutes peeling 4 garlic cloves, another 10 looking for my garlic press, and then clean up all the peels

The other day a friend joked we should do a "carrot day" where we each eat 20 full sized carrots in a day, and I played along, thinking it was a funny goof. Yesterday I realized that he was totally serious, so now I have three pounds of carrots to get through today.

@CsizmaziaDalma @notanerable Seems straightforward? The 60+ one comes with benefits so you need to prove your age/identity to get one in the first place. A regular oyster card isn't even really necessarily associated with you.

I’ve had to hear from multiple people today that pensioners have no political power or influence in the UK. Reminder we have Voter ID laws in the UK.

@eevblog The.. price? How much do you read a year that the price is meaningful? The advantage is not having to store and transport the physical books.

E-books are the biggest long game bait and switch scam ever. Spend a decade getting people addicted to cheap e-books and the convenience of their Kindle, then slowly jack the prices up to near the print version. Just slow enough that the frog doesn't complain it's being boiled.

@pilcrowonpaper Not seeing it personally, most data is relational, many-to-manys become a pain with data duplication (gotta be able to salvage desyncs) or slow full scan queries. Lot of extra complexity to deal with something a relational db does out the box.

I don't hate relational DB or anything but there's a small part of me that thinks a document DB like DynamoDB is better and more "correct"

@annw99189469 @HeatherBo63 @kokeshimum Can't really parse this, that's a pretty typical price for a three bedroom anywhere in the vicinity of London that isn't actively dangerous.

I wish more people knew invisible illnesses can disable you as well… used my disabled parking pass at the grocery store and a middle aged lady smiled at me and then started glaring when she realized neither me nor my friend driving me were clearly physically disabled
