@DevolvedEngland It'll be interesting to see what difference it makes in practice. Time will tell.

@thevoteuk An encouraging development that No. 10 North will host a devolution department which will assume responsibility for English devolution strategy from the MHCLG and local economic growth from HM treasury.

Andy Burnham has set out some of his first priorities as Prime Minister. • End rough sleeping • Lower the cost of living • Restore political stability • Build more homes • Give more power to local areas If he could only achieve one of these, which should it be? 🇬🇧

@veggiekrays Absolutely. Having a genuine connection to the local community is what many people value most in an MP.

@thevoteuk Yes, they should be local ppl and lived there for a few years before the run for election too. They need to know the area and the problems ppl in those areas face day in day out

Should MPs have to live in the constituency they represent? Some MPs live hundreds of miles away from the people who elected them. Should that be allowed? 🇬🇧

@AndyBasildon Agreed. Most people want an MP who knows the area, understands the issues and is visible in the community.

@thevoteuk No. Live where they represent; or three to five years residency before standing.

@HTheCritical Exactly, how do you know what's really going on if your not living it

@thevoteuk MP's should absolute live in the constituency that elected them. It's deranged frankly, that it's not the case. You need a local connection to know what the issues are in the area. I think these people forget they work for us!

@thevoteuk An MP should be a local, born and bred, otherwise they cannot represent local interests. And they should have some pertinent experience and background in business.

@thevoteuk I don't think keep filling pot holes is the solution. We need to invest in more durable road surfacing, especially given that many vehicles are now bigger and heavier. Might cost more in the short term but would save money in the long term.

Should councils have to fix potholes within 30 days? Potholes damage thousands of vehicles every year and leave drivers with costly repair bills. Should councils have a legal time limit to fix them once they're reported? Where do you stand? 🇬🇧

@thevoteuk Yup - there was a large 'split' in the carriageway near here - wide enough for a motorbike tyre to drop into - council just fixed the widest part, left the rest.......which has of course now widened.

@RealismHelps I see it all the time. A pot hole gets filled then a new one forms around the "fix"

@thevoteuk If this became the case, there's a good chance we'd see more bodging? After all, some surfaces simply need a complete resurface and that won't happen in 30 days?
