I don’t care what the metrics say on Burleson at first base. I can tell you by the eye test that he’s one of the better receivers at the bag in the game. It’s very apparent when he gets a day off.

The #STLCards are completely over-engineering Matthew Liberatore. Analytics are being used to build a fictional pitcher, instead of maximizing the actual guy on the mound. Last night was the perfect, painful example—cruising through 3 scoreless innings, only to completely unravel for 6 runs in the 4th by grooving a 90mph cutter and losing all command. Ever since the Arozarena trade, St. Louis has treated Libby like a lab experiment. They've forced a massive five-pitch mix, chasing high-spin sweepers and perfect metrics. The result? He has no feel, zero command, and no true "out" pitch. Coaching "the player you have" means stripping away the clutter. He is a 92-94 mph lefty. Ditch the chase. Shrink his arsenal to his two best pitches so he can throw with conviction instead of over-thinking sequencing data. Whether it's a permanent move to the bullpen or a reset in Memphis, the front office has to stop chasing a mirage and start dealing with reality. He has allowed 22 runs over 15.2 innings this month alone. You don't do that because you lack talent; you do that because you are completely lost mentally and mechanically. Stop the insanity!
