It's starting to hit me harder. I've lost the NFT that was closest to my heart and, sadly, my online identity in this space. I wasn't paying attention and fell for a scammy approval transaction. I've seen it all this year. What a ride.

@dotta also me - realizing that EQ had very bland combat and required way way way more time than I would ever have available today.

@reduzio Clarifying - external tutorials on sites like Youtube, etc. It's often hard to find "here's how to do a mobile drag/drop UI in 4.x." I realize this is the cost of moving forward with an engine but just sharing that I do run into this issue quite often still.

@reduzio Really enjoying 4.x. Especially some of the small syntax improvements like signals being called with dot instead of strings. The main areas I still find challenging are in-editor tilemap editing (going back to Tiled soon for this) and deciphering if a tutorial is 3.x or 4.x.

@dcinvestor Fighting Game Community must have a report on this. My anecdotal experience playing SF2 on a wired SNES gamepad vs 8bitdo bluetooth pad was that there was noticeable delay on the bt pad. However, don't notice any delay on my ps4 gamepad.

niche gamer question, but anyone tested input lag on bluetooth controllers versus controllers with a 2.4 ghz dongle? looking at 8bitdo controlles specifically feel like 2.4 should be more responsive, but idk for sure

@SeanPinnock @NicoVereecke Agree with this pov. Aside from difficulty and concurrency (which I agree are concerns), the bigger problem from my pov is bots/frontrunning. Anyone who thinks its fun to compete against bots directly has not played an FPS game against a well-written aimbot.

Yeah to be 100% clear I'm a huge web3 / blockchain advocate. Decentralization should be built into the future of gaming. It's just that from a pure technical perspective it doesn't make sense to put all of your game-logic on chain. Even if you're making a turn based card game. There's cheaper, faster, and equally decentralized and secure ways to do it elsewhere. You still NEED the blockchain though for a number of things. You can get all of the benefits that we want in web3 by taking a more hybridized approach that has "game-state" on-chain and "game-attributes" on-chain and then rely on more traditional networking models to solve the other parts of the stack. A couple of the Halos as an example actually used a peer to peer consensus model for their game networking. Basically a blockchain without a ledger.

I don't think people realize how difficult it is to create a fully-on-chain game. Furthermore I don't think it actually adds much value. What we really want is a fully decentralized game. I say this as a very seasoned multiplayer game developer. As an example to put all game logic on any multiplayer game on-chain that is real time is literally impossible at high concurrency. Just movement alone in any game with 100K+ CCU would need 10M+ TPS with 1/20th a second or 50ms delay time for transactions. Just Roblox would need hundreds of millions if not billions of TPS. I think a better phrase is a fully decentralized or web3 game. Ultimately, what we care about is that the game is fully decentralized, democratized, and authenticated on chain. We don't need a "fully-on-chain" game to have a fully decentralized one. In fact, AFAIK and as technology exists today it's actually impossible. Instead we should combining several technologies to achieve a fully decentralized game. IPFS, P2P networking, self hosting, decentralized compute and rendering etc. I have a paper coming soon that explains how to actually achieve a fully decentralized game and it's what we're striving to achieve in @avalon
