VAR instructs Chris Kavanagh to look at the incident on the screen and review a potential foul by Trossard on Pablo, but only provided CK with a one second clip of the melee. VAR hasn’t provided the referee with enough footage to award West Ham a penalty.

All I’m going to say is, when was the last time the Premier League had 36 games played and there are teams still fighting to avoid relegation, qualify for Europe and win the league? It’s the most competitive the league has been in so many years. Whether you like the way the football is being played or not, it’s a much better product than the title race and relegation battle already being decided by gameweek 30.

@IanDarke Just continue to enforce the “goalkeepers are off limits” that has been the standard for decades. There’s no way around the other grappling unless it’s egregious. But goalkeepers need to be protected from grabbing/pulling because otherwise it’d be mayhem.

Darren Cann is right. Time now for a new law stopping any attacking player in the six yard box at corners until the ball is in play. The skirmishing has stained this Premier League season.

@MajorRaverMatt @IanDarke @RefereeHalsey lol this isn’t true at all. Please back this up with stats or video evidence of all corner kicks and set pieces from all teams/matches this season, and then show that Arsenal is the worst offender. The first foul in the West Ham disallowed goal is Soucek on Havertz.

@IanDarke @RefereeHalsey Other issue that annoys fans, is Arsenal have been the worst at the dark arts in the penalty area this season, and have been allowed to get away with it, not hoped by ex players as pundits calling blatant holding and fouls as "not enough in it", or "goalie needs to be stronger"

@MailSport Think of the precedent it would have set if a foul was not given for this. It would be open season on goalkeepers. As difficult as it is to navigate fouls on corners, if anything needs to be protected it would make sense that the goalkeeper is off limits.

@kimmoFC He got two hands to it which means he could've caught it. NFL players do it every week with more contact with one hand. No excuse. West Ham got robbed especially since arsenal has fouled every keeper in the league all season on every corner and never gets punished

Every man and pundit agreed it was the right decision. Unbelievably unprofessional post match reporter from Sky. Running his agenda and narrative, putting words in Bowen and Nuno's mouth for reactions. Listen to the Arsenal hate in his questions.

@JDSuker @FPL_Timmy If you’re saying it was definitely a foul on Raya, then that’s “a clear and obvious error.” Never in my life have I seen a player hold a GK’s arms in a manner that prevent him from catching the ball and it not being called a foul.

@FPL_Timmy Where did I say it wasn’t a foul? My issue is that it wasn’t a clear and obvious error, particularly in the context where Pablo is being fouled by 2 players and Mavripanos is also fouled.

It’s absolutely bollocks, they come up with new phrases all the time, the first foul that impacted play. Fuck off. It would be amazing if you got your head out of VAR’s arse just once, and do a proper job, rather than just be their spokesperson!
Dale Johnson@DaleJohnsonBBC

Biggest VAR call ever? Four chaotic minutes that may define the season for Arsenal and West Ham. If it takes that long, can it really be clear and obvious? That is the wrong way to look at it. With @philmcnulty. 👇 bbc.co.uk/sport/football…

Referee Sam Barrott was right not to show a red card for DOGSO to Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope against Arsenal, according to the KMI Panel. "It's a clear red card," Mikel Arteta said after the match. The panel unanimously backed a yellow card. 👇 bbc.co.uk/sport/football…

This is incorrect. The VAR could have told the ref the free-kick awarded was wrong, and a penalty should be given. At the monitor the ref would be shown the foul he gave, and then the penalty claim. He would be able to stand by his foul, give the penalty, or give neither.
Kurt niklasson@kurreniklasson

@DaleJohnsonBBC could you please sort out the Griezmann penalty claim yesterday against Arsenal? The narrative on X is that VAR couldn’t intervene since the referee blew the whistle for free kick. But the whistle came after the penalty incident.

@AndyAppleby @tomtweettime @DaleJohnsonBBC If Guehi knew Barry was offside when the ball was played to him by whoever the Everton player was, then yes, he could have. As soon as Barry touches it, he’s offside and it’s City’s ball. Because Guehi decided to play it himself, Barry can no longer be offside.

Everton v Man City saw three big decisions - which the VAR left on the field. Looking at: 📌 Why an offside Barry could score from Guehi's gaffe 📌 Offside law interpretations 📌 Reason for no penalty for Silva holding Rohl 📌 Keane red card? 👇 bbc.co.uk/sport/football…

@AndyAppleby @tomtweettime @DaleJohnsonBBC A player can’t be offside when their opponent has the ball, so once Guehi has the ball, Barry’s position is irrelevant. If anything, it should put him at a disadvantage as it’s further from the goal he’s defending.

@thundergunnerwi @tomtweettime @DaleJohnsonBBC So he did benefit from being in an offside position? So it should have been flagged. Guehi could have done anything but didn’t, he (albeit poorly) played it to the keeper. The Everton player who was in an offside position as the original pass was made used that to his advantage

These clips actually highlight a fundamental flaw MLS needs to address if he wants to play MF. He takes big risks in dangerous central areas. Those fouls he wins, against better teams they become high value turnovers.
