I wrote 200,000 lines of code for a chatbot that never shipped. Pausing it was the most valuable thing I've ever done. It taught me that the code was never the bottleneck. Distribution was. Here's everything I got wrong trying to build an AI agency solo:

@matt_gray_ tbh most criticism gets lighter when you notice who it’s coming from. a lot of people have very strong opinions from the couch.

People will criticize you no matter what you do. Do too much and you're arrogant Do too little and you're lazy Do something different and you're delusional The price of attention never go away. So make sure what you're building is worth paying it.

@KingBootoshi I feel the magic too. I’m working way more with AI because the reward loop is insane. but I’m not fully sold on “we won’t be replaced.” we’re renting the intelligence, not owning it, and today is the weakest AI will ever be.

anybody who seriously uses AI at this point deeply understands this shit is not replacing humans in anything because we are all working 10x more since we are 10x more productive everyone is just going to operate at a new layer that was never seen before and it's MARVELOUS

With @OpenAI ChatGPT, I really don’t recommend using “Instant” mode anymore. With GPT-5.5, Thinking mode has become so fast that it’s basically always worth using. At this point, the only real reason to keep Instant mode around is probably for Free tier users, simply to save GPU resources.

@justinskycak exactly. the goal is not to automate everything. it’s knowing what to automate, when to automate it, and why it even needs automating.

Never underestimate how much time and effort you can waste by trying to automate a process you do not understand manually.

@brockpierson yeah, this is very real. I started from 0 last week and got to around 50 followers mostly through replies. the key is not spamming, it’s saying something real.

@emollick yeah, I agree. closed models still feel much more robust outside the benchmark bubble. but if open labs had the same funding and compute, I honestly don’t even want to imagine how far they’d push it.

This is a good explanation of why the gap between open and closed models is larger than it appears in benchmarks. I would add in that current open models are also more fragile than closed: they handle out-of-distribution problems far less well & have lower emergent capabilities.

@TaylinSimmonds yeah, it feels unreal at first. but once someone pays for your creative work, you realize your way of thinking has value.

If you've made any money from your creative work, even a single dollar, you've done the hard part.

@levelsio much more, honestly. AI made the possibilities feel endless, so work feels less like a chore and more like magic. still work though lol.

Do you work less, same or more with AI vs before AI?

@sama well, intelligence is probably how you get all three. push the frontier, then distill the parts people actually need.

i keep thinking i want the models to be cheaper/faster more than i want them to be smarter but it seems that just being smarter is still the most important thing

@Tim_Denning I wouldn’t call this a luxury, I’d call it depressing. A worker once made a joke on a call with me, then apologized because he “wasn’t allowed to joke.”

A silent luxury is being over 40 and not needing to ask a boss if you can take a sick day.

@danshipper yeah, this feels directionally right. but I’d guess in a lot of cases the app disappears too and it’s just you + the agent doing the work.

clear that this is how we'll be doing most of our work for the next 10 years: agent running continuously on the left, application that you + the agent use on the right

@ThePrimeagen for me it’s not always manual programming, but I get the feeling. computer open, music on, locked in for hours, building the future one little piece at a time.

I really just like to program Hands on keyboard, music, deeply thinking and enjoying the process

Whenever I feel anxious, I ask myself this question: What if everything works out better than I’ve ever imagined? It’s easy to get caught in a doom loop about the future. Force yourself to see the unlimited potential. The future is much brighter than you think.
