OTD in 1944: a USAAF B-17 [42-97578] crashes in Yelden (Bedfordshire, England). All 10 aboard and 11 on the ground die. Accident occurred on take-off from RAF Chelveston base, impacting a local farm and a nearby barrack block with military staff. (More Info ⬇️ )

Piloting a suicide bomb to find out why it crashed. Yes, this is from the movie "Operation Crossbow" but it happened in real life. Famed test pilot Hanna Reitsch did test fly a modified V-1 to iron out some problems: she did it (and survived)

22 March 1933. 1st purpose built SS-run Nazi concentration camp opened at Dachau near Munich with 200 prisoners. It was originally intended as a camp for political prisoners, mainly communists and trade unionists. This was soon extended to include other groups.

I had forgotten Mr Peter Purves was still with us, commentating Cruft's. I associate him with the Blue Peter TV series of my earlest memories, 1967-78. Finally found the time to binge the Bismarck episodes on the We Have Ways podcast. What a story and so well told. I ordered a second hand copy of the Ludovic Kennedy book that is quoted at times in the episodes.

Aghh! I know it's a first world problem. But @DHLGlobal is a mind-blowingly useless company. Parcel not delivered yesterday; driver 'could not get access' which was palpable nonesense. Meant to be here by 1139 today; all tracking now disappeared. WhatsApp contact is a bot - useless. Phone number is automated - useless. So utterly frustrating. Rant over....
