There is a massive, lazy narrative in football analysis where if a player isn't a "rapid ground coverer" like Baleba, people immediately write them off as "slow" or "unathletic." That's a huge misunderstanding of different physical profiles. Chema Andrés is not slow he is mechanically efficient. People made the exact same "too slow/not athletic enough" claims about Rodri when he first arrived at Manchester City from Atlético Madrid. They made them about Jorginho, and they certainly made them about Michael Carrick early in his career. As long as the team's structure is compact, a midfielder who plays with high structural discipline doesn't get exposed. Chema Andrés is the exact archetype of midfielder Carrick would love to mold. Carrick understands the value of a "silent conductor" better than almost anyone in football history. Under a manager who teaches the subtle art of positioning, scanning, and tempo management, Chema's lack of raw speed wouldn't be an issue it would be completely invisible.

The last midfield spot 100% needs to be preserved for a young ceiling-raiser who already has top-flight experience. Tielemans already brings that leadership floor we needed after Casemiro left, and we have Bruno. Signing another older player makes zero sense unless it’s Guimarães. Chema Andrés, Koné, and Baleba are easily my top 3 choices. Sander Berge is decent but his age profile is a pass for me. Hugo Larsson is a solid but signing him is completely redundant since we already have Andrey Santos + don't think he is as complete as Chema Andres. It’s either Chema/Koné/Baleba or Vivell has a completely wild surprise package waiting in the dark.
