@alexaldente Insane how I've like liquid death for 3 years at this point, a case a week, and all it took for me to go to another brand was them doing this fucking ad
English

This makes sense when you realize the guy who made the clutch move of ordering Elon Musk pizza at 1am is also the guy responsible for this brand
Mike 📺@michaelcollado
Thanks, I hate the Liquid Death AI slop ad
English

@TrippSmith_com @TheStalwart whenever I see a headline like “AI artist signs a $3m record deal/AI artist has a hit single/AI artist is blowing up in popularity” and I look up the artists social media, it’s always obviously astroturfed and botted
English

@TheStalwart I enjoy country music and this song is not good. And yet 2MM listens on Spotify? How is this possible?

English

The #1 country song in America is AI generated.
The artist "Breaking Rust" has 2 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

@snwy_me does standing in front of that train serve a purpose? who does it help?
im not going to try to talk anyone out of hating a thing that's bad for a heap of other reasons even if the specific reasons they've picked aren't right
English

as a left leaning person it’s so funny to see AI make leftists start acting exactly like the conservatives whom they criticize for these things:
- creating wholly unfounded narratives
- misrepresenting data and spreading misinformation
- refusing to listen to facts or reason
mr pussy@mrpxssy
AI companies are literally being kept afloat by cheating students
English

@RuiCarrilho5 @tokenbender I agree and im sure it came down to something like: “we want this person but we don’t want to lose our title iv funding, etc”
English

@tokenbender when a system starts obeying it's own rules without caring as to why those rules exist, were in for a bad time
English

a 17 yo genius disproves an age old mathematical conjecture and she is getting her applications rejected because she doesn't have a college degree.
this can't be real.

@stevesi @benedictevans MCP I don't think is about wrapping instacart or uber's entire stack. it's for services that *want* to be composed like stripe, postman, etc.
English

@vor0220 @circlerotator @emanuelsa @z0r0zzz I don’t really see this as a good analogy because sheer volume collapses existing ethical frameworks
English

@tnorris @circlerotator @emanuelsa @z0r0zzz If Studio Ponoc imitates the style of Studio Ghibli as former Ghibli employees on a mission to make more art like early Ghibli, is Studio Ponoc stealing from Ghibli?
English

@vor0220 @circlerotator @emanuelsa @z0r0zzz I think your claim treats biological and artificial systems as functionally equivalent, and they aren’t. humans aren’t running linear algebra interp across petabytes of scraped data. we are constrained by our memory, time, experience, etc
English

@tnorris @circlerotator @emanuelsa @z0r0zzz I don't understand how this is theft. Supposedly someone paid the licensing fees to distribute the film, the film appreciators view the films and feed the data to the machine. The machine is just imitating what they would do. Not unlike what a human could do. It's just faster.
English

@vor0220 @circlerotator @emanuelsa @z0r0zzz I feel like theft is fine if it’s inevitable and expensive isn’t compelling as an argument though. I still think the core conflict is humans as creators vs machines as omni synthesizers
English

@tnorris @circlerotator @emanuelsa @z0r0zzz They're definitely selling pickaxes. I don't think the gold is unethical when its done by individuals just playing with something that's going to scrape the internet regardless. That scraping is expensive as is running the machine. They should be able to profit off of it.
English

@vor0220 @circlerotator @emanuelsa @z0r0zzz I feel like that’s a dodge - they might not be mining gold but they’re still selling pickaxes, and the value proposition of the model depends on the art/content it was trained on.
English

@tnorris @circlerotator @emanuelsa @z0r0zzz I don't think so. They're selling the ability for people to use the trillion parameter model to do whatever they like with it. And making no copyright claims on what the machine produces (to date, though this is critical for further discussions tbf).
English

@vor0220 @circlerotator @emanuelsa @z0r0zzz even if they don’t make that claim, they’re still extracting value from it right?
English

@tnorris @circlerotator @emanuelsa @z0r0zzz Monetizing the art would be wrong. But Afaiu they’re not claiming that they own the art. Are they?
English

@circlerotator @emanuelsa @z0r0zzz letting a human learn something is just not the same as letting a trillion parameter model owned by gigacorps ingest and monetize it (or release it as OSS). I feel like this asymmetry is pretty obvious?
English

@circlerotator @emanuelsa @z0r0zzz point someone else made is worth repeating: the problem here is scale. a person copying the style of an artist is probably fair use; a model digesting the entire corpus of art and outputting derivative content is a qualitatively different thing
English

@TimWhatley321 @Hstlinghosptlis @MickWarshaw @out2sea90210 doing medicine != merely knowing facts. most of the job of a GP is judgment, liability, trust, etc which NPs and AI are not going to shoulder (at least any time soon)
English

@Hstlinghosptlis @MickWarshaw @out2sea90210 Also general practitioners will be replaced, by and large, by NPs and AI
English

@DoctorVive @jbarro honestly if you earned the degree, you can use the title, but doing so publicly does signal something. usually insecurity, sometimes just professionalism. “dr. genevieve” in a university directory is one thing, “dr_phd” on twitter is fair game for mockery.
English

@jbarro I assume you're not familiar with this convention because you don't have a PhD?
English

It is quite something to put “Dr.” in your display name and “Doctor” in your username when you have a Ph.D. in renaissance literature.
Dr. Genevieve Guenther (she/they) 🪬@DoctorVive
I am in shock. I've started Abundance. On the very first pages Klein & Thompson advance a climate program that rests on mass desalination, vertical farming, & sustainable jet fuel (which will allow us to take flying vacations every weekend). WHO DID THEY TALK TO ABOUT THIS? 1/
English

@AinsworthKeith @Craig_A_Spencer measles cases stayed sky-high until the vaccine. this graph just shows fewer people dying thanks to better medical care (antibiotics for secondary infections etc). after the vaccine, measles itself disappeared. huge difference.
English

@Craig_A_Spencer It’s nice to know that we have people in the government that aren’t stooges for pharmaceutical companies.

English

@RavenEllacott if you have access to visual information you don't have aphantasia, which is my point
